I love my ā22 Lightningās Lariat ER. It is my fourth electrified Ford vehicle, starting with a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid, followed by a 2010 Fusion Hybrid, a 2013 C-Max Energy (which Ford also killed) and now my Lightning.
I hate the fact that a battery module can fail at any time without...
This is a sobering battery module failure report. One would think that after 113k miles without a battery module failure that the modules would be good for the remaining life of the truck. Apparently that is not the case. Modules can fail at any time and at any mileage. I wonder if Ford knew...
Consider buying an extended warranty. As my service technician said to me, there is a lot that can go wrong on our trucks that can be expensive to diagnose/repair.
I lost connectivity with the modem a couple of times during the summer. The second time happened on the way home after the dealership spent 3 hours reprogramming the modem. When it happened the second time the service technician recommended disconnecting the negative terminal on the 12 volt...
Iām good with my ā22 Lariat ER until the battery warranty runs out. I have already had two battery modules replaced (one at 11,000 miles and the second at 23,000 miles), but an out of warranty module replacement would be very expensive, so will probably change vehicles before 8 years/100,00 miles.
We had another couple of inches of light snow overnight. The charging port cover seems to do a good job of keeping the snow out. I will have to wait to see how it does in an ice storm. And the Ziplock bag is good for storing the cover when not in use!
Even though itās not officially winter on the calendar we have already had a couple of snow storms in New England. I like to leave the Lightning plugged in when not in use so I can set departure times and warm things up a bit before going out. I wasnāt happy with leaving the charging port...
My ā22 Lariat was updated to BlueCruise 1.4 about two weeks ago. Ford claims the truck will remain in hands free mode about 8 times longer, but you couldnāt prove it by me. The one thing I do notice is the automatic lane change when I activate the turn signal (while in BlueCruise). That...
If you really want to see your mi/kw drop, try driving a Lightning at -18 degrees Fahrenheit. Then try to charge at a DC fast charging station. The cables become very stiff and hard to plug into the charging port. I learned my lesson last winter. Iām not going out in sub zero weather unless...
I experienced a similar problem about 2-3 months ago. When I took it in to my dealer they determined that the āgateway modemā had stopped working. I brought the truck in and they spent a morning reprogramming the truck and got the gateway working again. A day or so later the problem occurred...
I usually take my Lightning in every 5k miles to rotate the tires and have the service team check over the vehicle. After checking the truck over, the service technician makes a video showing me the critical areas that have been checked. While watching the video I spotted what looked like an...
I hear the dings when using driver assist or BlueCruise, and they indicate that either one has temporarily stopped working. Iāve noticed it happens along very curvey two lane roads, when going through toll lanes on an interstate, or when the interstate goes from two lanes to five. Once I get...
Thanks for the update. Your record keeping is very comprehensive. My record keeping only consists of a running spread sheet recording the miles driven and the number of kWh added to the battery. In the summer I can average about 2.6 mi/kWh. In the winter Iām lucky to get 2.2 mi/kWh.
I suffered from this same affliction, until I realized that with my hands on the wheel in the 2 and 10 oāclock position, it blocked the sensors view of my face. I found the solution to be lowering the steering wheel a couple of inches. This gave the sensors a much better view of my face. I...
The Edmunds truck didnāt have to have two battery modules replaced in the three years they owned it. I wonder how their conclusions would have changed if they had.
