The GOM is so wildly inaccurate on my Lariat ER, I wish I could just turn it off. I get much better estimates using the percentage charge left in the battery and my mi/kwh, then doing a little math in my head.
On cold mornings (under about 40 degree), if I set a departure time when the truck is connected to a charger (even if it is not charging) I get full 100% power from the battery. If I just jump into the truck to run an errand under similar conditions, my available power is limited to 95% or less.
If I remember what my service technician told me correctly, if a single cell’s voltage falls 0.03 volts or more below the nominal output of 4.03 volts, the truck goes into reduced power mode. On my truck, the voltage in cell #96 in Module #9 dropped to 3.97 volts. Not much of a drop, but still...
There is one other consideration that has not been mentioned in this discussion: do you have a Ford dealer nearby with a service department staffed with competent technicians, well trained in servicing Ford EVs? If so, then proceed. If not, back off until that criteria is met.
I feel that the...
I had this problem after returning from a two week trip abroad. Truck had sat for 12 cold days. On 2/1/24 I startEd the truck and the “Service Vehicle Soon“ message appeared along with the yellow wrench icon. I notified the Service Team at Grappone Ford in Concord, NH, and they responded...
This is what happened when cell #96 in module 9 failed in my 2022 Lariat ER. The first sign was the “service the vehicle soon” warning, along with reduced power. When I tried to charge on my home level two it got up to 60% charge then stopped. The Ford app indicated there was a charging...
I read this article too, and came away with the impression that the author was portraying the Lightning in the least favorable light.
Yes, towing, temperature and terrain all affect the Lightning’s range, but those same factors affect the range of an ICE powered F-150 too. The range loss of...
I joined the non-exclusive Powertrain Failure club yesterday after the truck sat idle while I was on an 11 day international trip. I contacted my service department at Grappone Ford in Concord, NH, as soon as the problem occurred, and they were able to pull the error codes over the air. They...
I email my Concord, NH Ford Service Representative, he responds with a date and time to bring it in (I’m retired so I can bring it in first thing in the morning). The longest wait has been 3 hours (the Ford servers for updating the programing of the new rear light bar were acting up after a...

Thank you for publishing your meticulous record keeping. It brings clarity to the discussion of EVs.
This happened to me during a slush/ice storm a few weeks ago. I stopped, got out of the truck and wiped off the round radar sensors on the front bumper. The problem went away.
I’m not sure what the hold up is. I have been checking on the status of their chargers weekly. I will stop by again on Saturday when I am in Concord. As soon as they open up the chargers I will report back here.
True story: When returning to the boat ramp after a September outing “On Golden Pond” in Central NH I found another Lightning owner couple had just loaded their boat and were preparing to leave. Of course I went over to say hello. We started off talking about how much we love our trucks, but...
