That’s a completely fair point and I agree. I’d have troubles buying last years model even at a large discount if the model just went through a refresh.
yes, but they still had to dives
but….
let’s just not pretend that the tax savings come anywhere close to the payout if those original investments played out as envisioned.
3/4 ton is also where you are going to impress fleet customers with reduced maintenance if you can achieve it and reduced operating costs if you can grantee them their staff a) will never run out of range, b) they start every day with a “free” 131 kWh or whatever it is.
I also said this before...
Form factor, noise and size are definitely the issue. If you think of modern engines, the complexity of the emissions systems add a lot to the overall NVH targets they are able to hit. Shoving all that in to a small form factor isn’t cheap. I think instead of putting it behind the window, it...
So they thought of it, hopefully they actually do go through with it. Because that is undoubtedly the answer to keep costs down.
@Ford Motor Company hear me out. You take whatever battery size you would feel comfortable with on an erev. Let’s say 70kwh. That will have no problem getting you...
I’ve been saying that this should be the solution for a while now. It makes no sense to make it a permanent fixture. Especially as price and weight are the enemies of EVs. The range extender should be an add on option. And be easily serviceable (not physically part of the vehicle).
So why can’t they just focus on actually advertising to customers the advantage of switching. They were so scared of cannibalism on the ice sales that they ensured the Lightning would fail. It was like an unwritten rule at Ford HQ. Never say Lightning is better at anything. I get there was a...
It’s like a sedan or suv customer worrying about having interior storage instead of a truck bed for the one time they might need to pick up a load of rocks. It’s a once in a couple years opportunity.
A great tool. I’m just thinking a manufacturer generated solution will have the benefit of software integration, bypass some issues that may be related to charge speed, etc.
My thoughts have been, why can’t we get a plug in the bed, and some attachment points to securely hold a ford built generator. If you never have a use for it, don’t buy it. If you use it once in a blue moon, you can just pull it in when you use it. And if you’re a lunatic with range anxiety...
the thing most it us don’t get, which apparently every other ICE truck buyer gets, is why are all these people worried about towing long distances for that one opportunity that they might actually do it. The vast majority of 150 customers do not tow.
