  1. Ford Kills Development of FNV4 (fully-networked vehicle

I've always wondered the same regarding licensing from Tesla. There's so much ingrained bloat, bureaucracy, and associated costs with legacy Ford/GM/Stellantis that I don't see how these companies can match or leapfrog Tesla/Rivian or the Chinese in developing the modern vehicle experience...
  2. Aftermarket HUD?

ICE version does, not sure about the Lightning. Unless you want to replace the whole dash, no retrofit that I know of. The HUD device is built into the dash in front of the steering wheel.
  3. Your Username - why & what does it mean?

Never thought of that, but would be really cool if it was the case! The reality is much more mundane!?
  4. New OTA Update Improves F-150 Lightning DC Fast Charging Times

I was seeing peaks of 180kw during charging back in October 2023 in my old 2023 LER. I also wonder if some trucks already had this.
  5. Edmunds comparison review: Silverado RST vs F-150 Lightning Lariat

Agree the RST interior could be better. I was on the fence with it. However when I found my Sierra deal, it was a no brainer as it’s a much nicer place to be. Have to admit I’ve used the mid-gate more than I thought I would as a DIY’er, but I still prefer the closed cabin and lift up seats or...
  6. Edmunds comparison review: Silverado RST vs F-150 Lightning Lariat

Many long trips in both. Slower speeds the LER was slightly more efficient, at higher speeds the Sierra does way better. Speed and weather don’t dramatically impact the Sierra like it does the Lightning. I’d never exceed the speed limit on longer trips in my Lightning. In the Sierra I’m cruising...
  7. The Lightning’s Native Nav is Worthless

As a comparison. In my LER, I never used the native maps because of its limitations; always used CarPlay. In my Sierra EV that has no CarPlay and runs Android Auto. I still prefer CarPlay, but I'm okay with Android Auto enough that I don't immediately resort to my phone like I would have in the...
  8. Ownership Experience - 2023 Lightning Extended Range (LER) to 2024 Sierra EV Denali (SEV)

I agree. The Sierra EV did not provide an option for the mid-gate. I would not have paid more for it, and even as a free option I'd probably have chosen fold up seats. If anything for noise reduction. If anything, this experience has re-iterated to me that CarPlay should not die off. OEM's...
  9. The Lightning’s Native Nav is Worthless

This was a huge gripe of mine when I had the car. Honestly, all EV's just need a precondition button. At some point it will be easier for phone maps to guide the driver, and the driver should be able to activate preconditioning as needed. As the OP found, I gave up on the native OEM apps long ago.
  10. Ownership Experience - 2023 Lightning Extended Range (LER) to 2024 Sierra EV Denali (SEV)

I much preferred the LER frunk. More space, better lit, more plugs. To me the close button is more intuitive as well. It's tucked between the vents on the SEV, below the frunk. You'd have to go with one of the Sierra variants to move away from the Avalanche look. On the Chevy version, I liked...
  11. Ownership Experience - 2023 Lightning Extended Range (LER) to 2024 Sierra EV Denali (SEV)

Sorry to hear it, but glad it's drivable and got fixed! I see you're in TX, you didn't happen to hit it on 290 did you? I caught mine just outside of Elgin. Unfortunately, I have to wait because there aren't any parts available for the fix yet.
  12. Ownership Experience - 2023 Lightning Extended Range (LER) to 2024 Sierra EV Denali (SEV)

Apologies for the length, but I was trying to capture as much as I could before my LER experience slips further into memory. Hopefully it helps someone. I'll tweak or respond to any other questions as they come up. Intro Let’s start by stating the obvious. The SEV has a three-year tech...
  13. Texas OEM Ford/Tesla NACS to CCS1 Charging Adapter - $200

FYI this has been listed on eBay, under my same handle. The price is higher there though.
  14. Texas OEM Ford/Tesla NACS to CCS1 Charging Adapter - $200

Not sure, but I received it the second week of November 2024.
  15. Real world heating data for 2024 in the cold

Wow, that heat pump has a huge impact. Finally some real world data. I was losing roughly 25% range when I had mine and it got cold outside.
  16. ChargePoint HomeFlex HARDWIRED 80amps

So it's official that ChargePoint Flex charger does not output 80amps. You all just saved me a wasted purchase. I was about to buy that model assuming the 80amp output. I guess that just leaves Grizzl-e as the only non Ford/GM charging option to get 80amp output?
  17. Texas Sold: OEM Ford/Tesla NACS to CCS1 Charging Adapter - $200

After many delays, my Ford adapter arrived... right after I traded the truck. This is the OEM adapter offered by Ford. It is brand new, comes in its original packaging, and has not been used. I am in the Austin, TX (far north) area and can meet locally; potentially in the central TX region. Let...
  18. Averaging 1.5 mi/kwh @ 32 degrees down from 1.8 mi/kwh last year.

Your mi/kW seems pretty normal for those temps. Similar to what i was getting last winter when I was in KY. I'd be surprised to hear you were getting 1.8 at hwy speeds at similar temps. I was barely getting over 1.8 in warm weather at highway speeds.
  19. Charge Station EV conversion to $4.50 per gallon @18mpg

Yeesh… regulating product costs? “Make money, but not a fortune”? How do you decide what a “fortune” is? For a second there I tripped and fell into a socialist chat. I’ll tell you what. If I was in BFE and had to pay $1 kW/h to get 350kW/hr service vs discounted wall outlet or 60kW/hr service...
