I doubt that messing with the mirrors will affect it. You can even close your mirrors while driving (I do not recommend this) and BC will still function turn signal touch for lane change and all.

Don't forget moving tall things as well...

not only can you remove the tailgate but occasionally when taking a large load and putting the tailgate down for extra room legally you still have to have reverse lights. I personally like the difference vs the lower end models that dont gave the tailgate lightbar.
