  1. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

You are further south. So between more daylight in the winter, and less angle to the sun, you overall production should be more. Plus, my west facing panels don't produce as early as my south facing. But that was the only place to put 23 panels on the roof. I will place my next 10 to...
  2. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

These will be mostly ground mounted, in my pool area, with a few on top of our pavilion. 6 or 7 will be south facing, with a couple west facing. They are bifacials, so that will help a teensy bit with generation as well. The more I think about it, I may do even more than 10, and maybe...
  3. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

My Total generation was: Oct 2025 - 347.2 kWh (My system wasn't fully function most of the month, only 1/3rd panels working) Nov 2025 - 404.2 kWh (The malfunction panels kept going partly into Nov as well). The solar installers had to take apart the system, and verify the plugged everything...
  4. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

My time of use rates don't seem to be that great when I last looked, so it seems like keep my normal rate is a better option. As for the kW versus kWh terminology, I'm aware of the difference (I'm an Electrical Engineer! :) . I just used kW/second in an attempt to make everyone aware that is...
  5. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

I know right? I kept hearing that I will be paid PTC (price to compare). Well the PTC on First Energy's site says $0.126. But when I look at my electric bill, is shows net metering credit is says 10kWh x $0.198. I was very pleasantly surprised. My solar installer says that once I get...
  6. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

I believe they put our total usage at approx 14,609 kWh. We should produce 13,278kWh, for a 91% energy predicted energy offset. That's why I want MORE panels. By adding 10 more panels for a total of 4.4kW instant, I would hope my production jumps to 18,589kWh. I think between that and net...
  7. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

I'm typically back home by 12pm to 1pm. So, assuming there is sun, I'd have at least 3, maybe 4 hours of charging time. Even if I come later, my excess get's sold back at the same price I pay for use from the grid, so that's makes my charging from grid doable as necessary.
  8. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

Your system is more than double mine. Our heat is gas furnace, with our attic supplemented by a mini-split. Wow, your EV charging year energy usage is 80% of our current household usage. I can see why you have such a large system.
  9. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

10kW instantaneous production, soon to 14.4kW instant production.
  10. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

22 x 440W panels West facing roof. 3 x 440W panels on South facing roof. The other day, I saw 9kW/second output on a sunny day. Before that, the most I saw in Nov through Feb was 7.8 kW/second. Sun is getting stronger, and I expect I should hit peak soon enough. On 3/8 and 3/9, I...
  11. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

Your system is similar to mine, so thanks for the comparison. I may just squeak by with enough excess using my 10kW system.
  12. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

I'm in Pittsburgh PA, and the net metering here pays the exact rate I pay for electricity. My current TOTAL usage rate per kWh is $0.198 (this includes generation, transmission and some other fee I forget). FirstEnergy will credit me $0.198 for anything I send back to them. So, it's a...
  13. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

I like it simple. That's a good metric that I can remember. With the addition 4.4 kW of panels I plan to add, I should have that regularly in March through October. If I have enough extra sold to net metering, I may have a nice reserve built up for Nov and December 2026 into Jan 2027
  14. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

Thanks for all the replies. To clarify, my current system is a 10.8kW instantaneous peak system. In other words, when sun is at peak, it will produce approx 10kW per second. We just had it installed in Oct 2025, so I have not yet experienced spring and summer solar production, but...
  15. 12V Battery replacement with H4

If it is measuring SOC, versus only voltage, then it would measure voltage, current and probably also temperature as a correction factor. BMS system generslly should not care about the battery capacity. Its only job is to get it to a full state of charge. Maybe the Lightning BMS also adds...
  16. Can my solar array support my future F150 Lighting driving habits?

I want to get a Lariat with the ER battery. And I want to always charge from my solar panel excess energy, at least as much as possible. I have a 10.8 kW solar array with Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh) battery. I'm am shortly adding another 4.5kW of panels, for a grand total of 15kW. My...
  17. Ford CEO Jim Farley Totally Regrets Ford F150 Lightning Pickup

That's a fair point. But with the markups and wait times on EVs during that time, the savings would not materialize for a long time.
  18. Ford LIES!

That lithi battery fire is very sobering. Better to keep lead/acid for accessory battery. While EVs look like normal cars, they really aren't. When gassing up an ICE car, the "dangerous" flammable part happens far from your home and garage. Barring some major issue with your car, like a fuel...
