  1. Transition to EV, why Ford/GM still need dealers to sell the trucks?

Ford CEO has been quoted to suggest spinning out the EV business into a separate company. Wouldn't this separate it from their dealer network also?
  2. After Market Battery Upgrade

It's a California law. They have categorized it as an emissions warranty.
  3. After Market Battery Upgrade

That's a legal requirement. All manufacturers must provide that warranty.
  4. Max tow package on Lightning - how much can I tow without it?

I'm curious about what this additional cooling really entails. Seems like a manufacturing annoyance to require a lot of additional parts. I think it would be worth it if it does provide additional cooling. Unfortunately, I think many of us will make assumptions based on previous experience and...
  5. Current EV owners question re: stuck in traffic with low charge

That is a bad scenario. Sitting and running the heater will burn through your range. You can still get roadside assistance. I doubt you can get a roadside recharge, maybe someday. You would probably need to load it onto a flat bed.
  6. Seemingly inexpensive NEMA 14/50 option may have just gotten pretty expensive afterall

There is a technique for connecting a generator to a house called back-feeding. It requires care in switching out the main breaker before connecting the gen to the house wiring. This could be done with an adapter from the Lightning 9.6kw output. The slang for an adapter for this purpose is call...
  7. Seemingly inexpensive NEMA 14/50 option may have just gotten pretty expensive afterall

The electrician told me he would only quote a 50A line when I had the work done. I got two 50A (40A useable) circuits so I suppose I could use them together to get 80A charger. But I did it that way so I could charge at least two cars at the same time so I may just go with my original plan. I...
  8. Seemingly inexpensive NEMA 14/50 option may have just gotten pretty expensive afterall

It will work, but your range increase per hour will be about half as fast as the car you are charging now. I have a 40A charger on a 50A breaker (Clipper Creek) and I am sure I will notice the difference in charge speed.
  9. Fleet sales manager at dealer says they expect 40% range reduction at 70 mph + , Is that possible?

Looks like most mfg estimates were actually pessimistic. Rivan was at 2 miles per kWh so if we assume about the same I estimate 250 mile range at 70 mph. But that's trying to guess based on data that isn't solid. It may actually do much better than that.
  10. Fleet sales manager at dealer says they expect 40% range reduction at 70 mph + , Is that possible?

I have no data for the Lightning. This is my intuition based on accuracy of other mfg estimates. I think Ford is looking for customer satisfaction and that the range estimates are based on 2.3miles/kWh which accounts for the coefficient of drag. The 300 mile range estimate could be optimistic...
  11. Fleet sales manager at dealer says they expect 40% range reduction at 70 mph + , Is that possible?

It isn't going to be 40% less range at 70mph. Probably more like 15% for 255 miles range. Thats why you need the big battery. You might see 40% range drop in cold weather, rain and driving 70mph with the heater blasting.
  12. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

Introducing the World's Most Powerful Electric Outboard - IBEX Show
  13. RV Trailer Towing With F-150 Lightning - Considerations & Discussions

Towing range will be an issue. Pull through charging locations would be nice. I speculate that there will be ways to improve range, such as slide in range extender battery, fuel cell or gen. Also, the trailer could have a range extender and could even be self propelled.
  14. Ford email confirms F-150 Lightning orders starting at “beginning of the new year”

I noticed the XLT has Copilot 360 and Active 2.0 as an option. Does that mean the XLT can have Bluecruise when equipped with Active 2.0?
  15. Charging speed of the F150L might be too slow

Don't use the Mach-e performance to predict Lightning performance. They are completely different. Mach-e battery pack comes from LG Chem. Lightning battery pack comes from SK Innovation and is a completely different capacity and design.
  16. What will be your first F-150 Lightning upgrades?

Probably get a SoftTopper for the bed. I need to be able to convert to open bed fast.
