Maybe a plastic water tank would work. You can buy 100 gallon plastic water tank from Home Depot and strap it down to the bed. Then you could dump the water wherever you needed the extra payload or when you didn’t care about the smoother ride, like when your wife is not in the truck.
I have been VERY tempted to do the same. The Silverado EV has greater range, charges much faster and has some other features that I really like, like the column shifter and the pass through rear seat. But the Lightning is 3,000 lbs lighter, has faster acceleration, is more efficient and costs...
Looks like I’m going to be abandoned Ford products for at the foreseeable future but this won’t be the first time. I bought four Fords in a row; a Fusion hybrid, Fusion PHEV and two Focus BEVs. But then I bought a 2nd Gen Nissan Leaf and a Kia Niro EV because Ford was not keeping up with EV...
the Silverado EV already has almost 500 miles of range and most ICE don’t have that kind of range. Your Lightning will probably live longer than you do and by the time you’re going to want to call it quits with your Lightning there will probably be much more capable EV trucks, even if not Ford...
My Lightning has really been working well for me. I even pull a travel trailer routinely between Texas and Colorado. I have to stop and charge about every 100 miles pulling the travel trailer but access to Tesla superchargers has made this practical for my trips.
So many of these posts appear to indicate that the Lightning is going to be abandoned by Ford, I think that’s far from the case. The new EREV Lightning is probably going to have the same electric motors and the same battery modules but just less them. I just hope EREV sales keep Ford EV research...
Get this Ford, I will NEVER buy an EREV. The Lightning isn’t perfect but I will stick with it until either it dies or I die or a much better EV comes out.
I will say this for all the Lightning fans, the Lightning became a classic as soon as it went into production. Someday our Lightnings are...
Stupid idea! If I wanted range extension I would have bought a hybrid. I have issues even with the concept of range extending batteries.
With range extending batteries you have two batteries you have to charge, could be a pain on long trips. Even when pulling an RV I would rather stop more...
There are some pretty smart mechanics that frequent this forum. I bet some of them could figure how to take the CCS2 parts that are already available on European Lightnings and install them on a CCS1 Lightning. Since you’re already spending $20k over list it might be worth it to spend a grand or...
The F150 Lightning is sold new in Norway and Switzerland and is configured for the CCS2 standard. I don’t understand why anyone would ship a Lightning from North America to Europe unless it’s a lot cheaper to ship than to buy new in Europe.
I pulled my new travel trailer on my latest trip to Colorado. I didn’t keep track of the Lightning efficiency pulling the trailer. All I really cared about was having enough range to make it to my next charging stop.
Real interesting article on Insideevs, not only does it say that NEVI has been reactivated, it says that changes to requirements will actually speed up implementation. I hope they are right and I hope this acceleration extends into the following plan years.
P.S., I have already received...
Texas seems to be releasing some NEVI funds. The Texas Electric Vehicle Infrastructure website now has some sites listed as “Planning” that were previously listed as paused. There’s also some chatter online for some of the sites indicating construction dates.
I put the rv on the road today. I got 1.2 miles per kWh on my outbound leg and 1.0 miles per kWh on the inbound leg. The temperature stayed above 100 degrees F and my top speed was 60 mph.
It looks on long trips I’m going to have to charge about every 100 miles. That’s doable on interstates...
I know I said I wouldn’t but I did anyway. With all the traveling I do in the Lightning, the travel trailer just made sense. Still not totally sure this is a good idea but I’m excited about the freedom I think the travel trailer is going to give me.
