Mine started to separate almost immediately back in 2022 and the dealer replaced both under warranty.

I am the first poster on this thread. Mine were replaced a year and a half ago and have been fine since. This is a known defect going way back and yours should be replaced with no argument.

Thanks for checking. It certainly seems to be a selective problem that hopefully Ford can isolate and resolve.

I will be going into the dealer for some recall issues if and when they ever receive the parts and I plan to bring up this issue to them when I do so. My hope is that they will have a lightning or two on the lot that does not reproduce this same event. I will report back to this thread when I do.

If the truck is unlocked and I repeat the procedure it closes properly. It only happens when the truck is locked. So, it cannot be an obstruction or it would not close properly whether locked or unlocked.

I've had my Lightning for a year now and have the Ford installed bed mat. I have taken several trips and loaded the bed often. I am very satisfied with it. It stays in place, is easy to clean, is no-slip, and has just enough padding so that I can work in there on my knees comfortably.

Whenever I open and then close the tailgate (by whatever means) and the truck happens to be locked, the horn honks very loudly and the tailgate opens again. Only after unlocking the vehicle can I close it. I try to remember to unlock the truck first every time now, but it is a minor hassle...

FYI, I purchased that cover and was one of early reporters of the problem. Ford replaced the felt pieces with ones that have a different adhesive at no charge and so far so good. Otherwise, I really like the cover. And I’m Carbonized Grey, too.😬

My FordPass app shows me where the truck is at all times if that is what you are referring to.
