This entire thread is a perfect example of why EV's have a long way to go to overtake ICE. I love my Lightning and it will be the last vehicle I ever own, but I charge at home and take my wifes ICE car for trips.
your comparison is very fair, using vehicles with similiar capability.... namely PU trucks. However many of us, myself included have secondary vehicles that are ICE. In my own case I nixed use of the Lightning in two December trips because my wife's Honda Pilot gets 28mpg and gas in Texas...
Had a mishap of my own making backing out of the driveway at night and sidescraped a fence damaging the tailight. I got the same estimate. the taillight assembly is $2k all by itself.
Reminded myself that I am driving a $70k vehicle. That's what insurance is for. I have $500 deductible...
use it the time. In fact one of the very few complaints I have about my Lightning is that it's sits too high. I previously had a Chevy Avalanche for 12 years. Although it had running boards, I never used them. I can't get into the Lightning without them and the A-pillar handle. In fact...
I have never believed in extended warranties but I did for the Lightning. Got mine through my dealer at the time of purchase but the issuing company is CNA National I paid $7k in sept of 2023. 10 year, 150k miles. At 20k miles I haven't had any troubles or reason to contact them.
so I like the rotary switch idea but it's not a mod I would attempt. I'm fine with the stick. Never had a problem. And if you and have examine the number of posts vs the number of posters? (many people make multiple posts) I haven't but with a 100,000 Lightning's out there the number...
real easy to say"..new battery technology on next year's models that would increase the range. More range is the greatest desire of all Lightning owners." when you don't have any idea of what it will cost. Those that actually design and build the Lightning realize that there is nothing out...
Made the same conclusion and have made two holiday trips (800m and 400m RT) this month and for both we took my wife's Honda Pilot. the reason, simple math. DCFC charges $.30-$.50/kwh, vs 28mpg with gas at $2.20/gallon.
Happened to me a few weeks ago, dealership replaced the LVB. problem solved
UPDATE 12-31-2025: got the "Battery Saver Mode" message again, a month after having my LVB replaced. WTF?
