Might do something similar, I'm a network/systems engineer and once the mini-split is installed in the garage, I'll be moving a couple homelab servers out to the garage that use 400-500 watts continuously. Right now it puts me just over what the 600 watts of solar we have on our tool shed can...
What we'll do. Just wondering if the charging to 100% avoidance was only an issue at higher charging rates. The Truck doesn't really sit at 100% ever for very long. There will be a mini-split A/C in the garage soon for the excess Juice, so it leaving electrons on the table won't really be an...
Think it's OK for the battery to be charged to 100% if we’re only charging (from a solar array through an EG4 hybrid, split phase inverter) at only 12 amps? Hate to miss any free juice, and want to get to payoff as soon as is safe. We add in 10-20kW/day this way.
And broke a daily production record by over 10% yesterday...
That's the benefit of the automatic tracking which is just back up and operational.
Soon, we should have 20kW of batteries to max out.
Getting pretty close to complete. Implementing some gutters to feed the rainbarrel in the foreground, moving the 100watt panel that powers the control box over to this side, and then getting the automated microcontroller controlled watering going, and then it's just waiting for harvesting...
Thanks!
It's been fun, and fun that will pay for itself and provide backup power for the house!
The better I fine tune it, the quicker the payoff.
While I've been working on the coding to sync the actuators, I pulled two of the five actuators and I've been moving the panels manually...
Making a tons of progress with raised beds installed, control box coding just about complete, and new records for output:
Crossed a signficant milestone of 20kw of output in a day on march 11th, and have been getting consistently high output and input:
Control box now with an Arduino Giga...
Cool sunny days, and we broke an output record by quite a bit yesterday. We produced 19.5 kW, and put 55 miles back into the Lightning, at least according to FordPass. We hit 18.4 kW today as well.
I pulled two of the five, Progressive Automations linear actuators off the array, to work on...
It’s going to take Ford a number of years to figure out how to function as a tech company, and learn standard operating procedures related to maintaining uptime, reliable infrastructure, and change management process.
When I first started working at Time Warner/Spectrum in 2007, coming from...
I read earlier about someone turning charging up to 80 amps, but I'm assuming, what is above is true. When I self installed for our Solar charger, I derated to 12amps with the dial, as it's on a 6kW Hybrid charge/verter. I know there is a setting in the app to change amperage, but, I'm assuming...
With the new actuators and angle, looks like another new record for generation. We’re at 15.1kW at 4pm, and the previous was 15.2. We even had 20 mins of no production while the truck was at the farm, and the batts filled up around 1:30pm.
***edit - finished the day with 16.3 kW, even with the...
Big workday. Probably the last for awhile. Looks like lot's o' rain and clouds for the next 8 days at least.
Got the Progressive Automations hall sensor linear actuators installed. I added another motor driver to the control box, and rewired the actuators with 16 gauge wiring, home runs to each...
Thanks, one of the things I'm doing is just checking to see if this is a viable way to do this.
I'm using the house as a control, which doesn't have tracking. While the tracking does provide more output, I'm not sure I'm going to get to the 25% additional I'd like to. We'll be deepening the...
As one might expect, days are getting longer, and we broke another PV input record. I wasn't sure in the winter we'd get to 15kW, which portends to good output this summer.
Working on the PA Hall sensor actuators
Have one moving as I would like with the motor drivers I've been using, and...
LOL, I just came on here to check this...
I'm on call right now for my company, and if our one app was down there would be, literally, 200+ people in a war-room right now on a call that I'd be running, and I'd be supah stressed...
We're a little bigger than Ford, but similar.
My heart goes...
Finished a little needed work to add the 100watt panel that charges the single axis controller to the grid and powers the actuators. It had just been balancing on the top of the fence, and the 12v battery it charges was noticeably low in the early mornings if it needed to be moved. Normally, it...
Well, the system survived a sustained wind test. Pretty much 40mph all night with gusting to the mid-50's.
This with the skinny Ecoworthy 18" actuators that are soon to be replaced by the huge Progressive Automations 24"
Sat outside for 10-15 minutes in the 50mph winds, and the panels didn't...
I’m sure I will, if it seems feasible. My mistake was looking at the Pebble trailer, and now I want to build some sort of drive system into the trailer, lol. I would, at that point, have bit off more than my engineering skills can chew. I just cant help but wonder about larger hub drive wheels…
