I have the MLB app on my phone and now on my Lightning screen courtesy I guess of Apple Play. As a standalone app on my Lightning I get a message saying I must be a Subscriber but there does not appear to be a way to enter my credentials so this app will work in the absence of my phone. The app appears to merely be a conduit for the app on my phone - meaning no phone no MLB availability on my Lightning. This is different with Sirius - it works alone and does not need my phone - am I missing something (please don't say common sense - thanks!)?

No worries.

In Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto, your Truck is just acting as a projection screen for what's on your phone. All the apps, settings, and subscriptions are still being run on your phone and, basically, are being projected onto the screen in a format friendly with your vehicle.

SiriusXM works in your vehicle via built in hardware and Sattelite antenna. If you used SiriusXM via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto it would be streaming through your phones internet connection.

Edit: Your phone is doing all the heavy lifting which is why when you are running CarPlay/AA wirelessly you will notice your phones battery drain is high.

Thanks for the explanation.

Do you need to be subscribed to the Ford streaming service for this to work? Maybe that is what it’s asking the subscription for.

Some folks on Reddit say if you start the stream on your phone first, and leave the phone unlocked, CarPlay will pick it up and play through the truck. You still need your phone to run the app. The credentials issue seems to be a problem with the MLB app itself.
