OK fellas, first drive with my new TINY Garmin dashcam this morning, still figuring things out, but good news, there is a way to power it using your OBD2 plug. Ran the cable up the side trim and it tucked nicely into the headliner and center stack without issue. Garmin is so small (no screen) it tucks behind the rearview mirror. Very nice. Syncs with your phone and the Garmin app.

So far, thing is brilliant. It DOES record a little while after you power the truck off. Caught a couple guys checking out and doing a walk around of my truck this other day. Also, mic is strong enough to catch audio from the Camaro driver who challenged me this past wknd :) it even picked up his audio when he yelled, 'I like your truck, I had to try!'

I have since replaced the OBD cord with the mirror plug. It turns off instantly tho, so no parking monitoring. At least with the OBD plug, it recorded for 2 hours following turning the truck off. It just wasn't super reliable. Sometimes it powered the camera, sometimes it did not. bummer.

I’m about to try this, but with the official Garmin OBD2 power supply. It has dual usb and a switch to enable power at all times.

I actually did this last weekend, with two Garmin Mini 2 cameras. I have the official Garmin power supply that supports two with the switch set to always on (infinite) and the camera settings set to 24hrs. While it powers the camera fine, I’ve yet to “prove” that it’s functioning when the vehicle is off. They seem to switch off (it had a parking guard delay that I set as low as possible) when the vehicle gets turned off, but when I get back in it informs me an event has been logged.
Of course, this is interrupted as soon as wireless CarPlay connects and prevents the wifi connection. In order to reliably connect, I have to toggle CarPlay off temporarily. I extended wifi into the driveway so they connect fine, but the Guard Vault remains empty a week later, when it should have 24 hours of recordings.

Even now, I just got back from a 20 min drive and they show as not connected in the app. It’s been more than 10 min since I parked, but less than 24 hours, so parking guard should be active and the cameras should be on and uploading to Vault.
