Love the truck, but a few minor gripes that I hope they improve.

I woiuld add Dog Mode to the list. I have a simple "work around" which works fine. But I'd prefere if it was just one button.
Workaround the leave the truck on and remove the key, or just remote start?

Here's the work around.

  • AC / Heat On: Be sure AC is set to “Auto” and to, say, 73 degrees.
  • Truck On: Leave the Truck Running.
  • Lights to Off: Turn the dial to the left until it’s “off”.
  • Close Mirrors: This is optional.
  • “Power Down” Timer Off: Turn Off the 30 minute “Vehicle Power Down Timer”: Note, if you shut the truck off during this process, you MUST repeat this step. This step is required EVERY time you start the truck.
    • “Settings”
    • “Vehicle”
    • Turn off the first setting, “Vehicle Power Down” – This must be manually toggled to “Off” EVERY time (because when the car is shut off, this immediately “resets” to “Timer On”.)
  • Manual Cardboard Sign: I put a “Dog Mode” sign over the display. And I’ve pasted these instructions to the back of the sign.
  • Open Door: Dash will say, “Truck is Running.” Ignore or press “OK”.
  • Exit: You can take the Remote OR you can leave the Remote in truck.
  • Lock Truck: Lock the truck by simultaneously pressing the “9-0” and “7-8” buttons on the “Keyless Entry Keypad” (on the door jam.) Confirm truck is locked by confirming the traditional door lock “knobs” are down after closing all doors. If the truck double chirps, it is NOT locked.
  • Confirm Running: Confirm the truck is still running. (The dashboard should look like it does when you are driving.)

Regarding one-time departure time,
In my humble opinion it's not needed
Agreed, but I don't live in a cold environment. Also at least currently, my truck is not plugged in overnight at least 5 nights per week (driveway logistics issue). In fact a month or two ago I turned off my scheduled departure since it was totally un-needed in the summer and that prevented it from turning on most the exterior lights (yes, I have the truck in silent mode). Before the next southern California version of winter arrives, I will be retired so won't have a regular early morning departure, so I don't expect to re-enable scheduled departure. I do use remote start somewhat regularly, but that's usually to cool it off, not heat it up. (cabin only, not battery).

I absolutely love this truck, but the digital HVAC controls kill me. Thats why I originally wanted the XLT but I couldn't pass up on the extended range of the Flash. It's so laggy when the car first starts up. I just wanna start my car and be able to flip the fan/temps immediately to what I want.

I hate this shift towards getting rid of all physical buttons. It's not as luxurious as these automakers think. It's just more inconvenient.

And back to the point of how laggy this infotainment is, I find it unacceptable. Sometimes it feels like using a decade+ old tablet. There is no reason a $70k truck can't include a higher end CPU, such as an AMD Ryzen. I feel like the software/UI/performance is going to age horribly and will be the main reason i don't buy out my lease at the end.

Thank you. Dug into it this am and I think I understand now.

So my gripe still stands that having a one time preconditioning would be a nice feature to have as opposed to having to program a recurrence.
I agree. That seems like an odd omission.

LOL, these aren't common issues.

I would never call the steering wheel thin.
Maybe you have girl hands?

Agreed. When I first got my Flash, that was the biggest learning curve I had. It was 94 degrees outside and I couldn't for the life of me figure out the HVAC controls. VERY distracting. ALL vehicles should have physical buttons for HVAC controls at a minimum. I had to literally open the owners manual to figure out the button press sequence to shut HVAC completely off also. Ridiculous.

It's so funny to me how automakers claim they are adding tech to reduce distraction to driving, but ironically the way they are doing it is ADDING to distraction while driving.

Yeah I can see it in certain parts of Cali, not really being needed. I live near Mt. Hood at some elevation, so in the wintertime we regularly see sub-freezing temperatures in the AM through mid-morning. So for me, knowing I have an appt at say, 10am the next day, it would be great to be able to tell it that and let it pre-condition, rather than saying 10am on Wed. knowing that next Wednesday I may need to leave at 6am, or 1pm, or not at all, and thus keep chasing the recurrance rather than letting it "expire," like the one-time charge does, or nearly any smartphone alarm app allows you to do.

It would be a nice quality of life improvement. None of the things that are gripes are really "needed." But strictly speaking neither are heated seats, backup cameras, etc.

I agree and wish we still had physical buttons for this stuff, even with the big screen. The fact that when you have no seat conditions on, that pressing it once defaults to heated seats full and then you have to ratchet it down and into cooling if you want it is annoying, especially when it's laggy. If nothing else just make pressing the icon simply open to other options without turning one of them on automatically. Or give us door buttons for those controls like lots of other manufacturers do.

The startup lag is what makes those controls more annoying. At least steering wheel volume is responsive even when the dial is not.

That's nice...if you've been driving F-150s. I haven't since 2013. And when you only get a 30 second test drive with a salesman talking to you the entire time, do you really get a chance to notice everything? No, you don't.

360 camera is no where near as effective as being able to actually look into the mirror.

Yes, it's bad. If I have to toy with the controls throughout the day to stay comfortable, why call it "automatic climate control"? Just put manual controls on it, save money, and move on.

Well you've heard it now. Go drive a F-250 or any truck made by Ram and feel how nice and chunky the steering wheel is. Then go back to your F-150. It's night and day. And it DOES make a difference in comfort and steering if you drive much.

Never said I dislike my new truck. But this stuff could use work. And that's the entire point of this thread.
The Lariat and Platinum have thicker steering wheels. Probably due to extra padding or thicker leather wrap.

One of those weird ways that Ford cuts corners on lower trims.

Push the cool icon, no ratcheting required.
That works too, just unfortunate that it's tied into the main screen, so it's often so laggy that the clicks don't register, or conversely sometimes register as multiple presses.

Exterior mirrors are a joke. If I raise it high enough to get a field of view in the lane next to me then I can't see below toward my tires for backing into spots or backing a trailer. If I lower the mirrors to see those things then I lose my field of view on the highway. These mirrors belong on a Fisher Price toy.
I agree with this problem. I can see what song they sing in the school bus 300 yards back, but I have no idea what's going on around the truck. I never had cameras on my previous cars, and using the mirrors to back up have been easy. Now I have to rely on cameras that only display a good picture in fair weather. Any rain, and probably snow, ruins it.

Can I switch to a non scoped mirror?

I have put bullseye mirrors on every vehicle I have owned.
