Can't Add a Bluetooth Device

I got this truck with all this connectivity and 2 ugly roof antennas but I can hardly use my MP3 player, I'm a low tech kinda of guy. Don't need sync or wi-fi, I just want to use my MP3 player. Per the manual there should be an "Add Device" button under Bluetooth. There isn't. All I got is bluetooth on and off. No big deal right? I sure the software will get updated at some point and I can always use a wired connection. But no! If I ever leave the MP3 plugged in and turn of the truck, just for a minute or two, the MP3 is critically ill. As if the truck sucked all the life out of the player. I need to slowly recharge the player and bring it out of it's sleep. What a pain. I now dangle/warp the MP3 and wire in front of and around the ignition so hopefully I remember to unplug before I turn off the truck

Anyone else? Do you think a software update will do it?

I just use the phone in my pocket.
gave up on CarPlay and just use the BT.
also help me to make sure I have my phone with me—the display tells me no device and it goes to a radio station
