Well, to each their own... It does make me wonder if Ford added the rake to cater to the nostalgic 'old guys with money' set, leaving the rest of us to figure out how to level it for a more current look.
Nothing scientific yet, but I can say definatively that mileage with the Blizzaks was much worse than now with stock tires back on. No surprise there. I was never above 2.0 per mi/kWh with Blizzaks, but being back on stock tires, I'm regularly above 2.0. The weather is still cold here, which has...
I've been thinking for months about larger / wider tires for my Lightning. I never liked the look of the stock wheel/tire combo. The verdict is there's a fairly significant range penalty going to heavier tires, especially when an AT tread is involved.
So I decided to try the stock Goodyear...
Does faking the tire size in the computer effectively just increase allowable top speed? Or is there some other traction related calc this impacts? Assuming you would program a small tire size so the truck thinks it's going slower than it really is?
Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing the first EV Lightning in the 11s. I guess that's not very impressive anymore with stock Teslas running 9s (8s?), but would still be cool to see, and maybe not that hard to achieve.
I'll admit, I've gone down a tire rabbit hole, and I'm not sure where this will lead... It started as I was looking for a wider tire to mount on my 20x9.5" wheels to fill out the wells just a bit more.
Then I realized there are several 305/50-20s that are ultra high performance rated (still all...
I'd still say no difference in ride quality. I noticed more of a handling change when I installed winter tires on 6mm offset wheels. The lightning does float around a bit more than I'd prefer, but it did that from day one, stock. What did you experience previously?
Question for anyone who's mounted wider tires requiring trimming the air dam: can anyone point me to a source that illustrates tools/ best practices? Are people also rolling the metal lip just above the plastic air dam? Tips on doing this without any paint damage? How about rear? I never hear of...
I noticed that Rough Country *may* have a helper spring system for the Lightning. I have not contacted them on this, but it might be worth looking into: https://www.roughcountry.com/air-spring-kits/ford/f-150-lightning/2023
I've only driven it 10 miles around town, but no noticeable difference, nor did I expect there would be.
Only noticeable change was the headlight angle, so I aimed them 2" downward, which was simple.
Thanks. Yes, I like that tire size too. I'm fairly certain 275/65R20s would fit mine with stock-offset wheels, but would not fit with my +6. Maybe there's an offset in-between that could fit. Really only worried about the front air dam lip, which I know some have trimmed.
Here's the 3/4" Rough Country kit installed, front and rear. Overall fairly mild, but clearly better than stock. Open tailgate is at least 2" lower, so that's a plus for loading.
It left me with about 6.25" fender gap in front and 7.00" in the rear. I'd rather have zero rake, but the 2" front...
Exactly. Someone needs to make a 1.25" or 1.5" front spacer for this thing!
I haven't gotten around to installing mine yet, but hopefully will in the next few weeks. I'm now leaning toward trying the + 3/4" front first with the rear -1.5 drop. Then go to 2" if it's not enough. If I were...
Thank you, that's reassuring. Is it safe to assume you did an alignment after installing just the rear? And do you plan to zero out the scale, or just leave it reading heavy?
