I've also seen the > 10 kWh lost during 99-100% cell balancing into resistive loads. So, don't do it everyday. If your battery cells grow too imbalanced, the truck will throw wrench icon with Service Soon warnings and you might need a module replaced. The longer you go without cell balancing...
This experience doesn't instill confidence in the truck's ability to reliably balance battery cells outside of the 99-100% cycle. Sorry it happened. Thanks for sharing.
You have a graph in the first post with a low variation on 7 Dec. It was much higher in your next measurement dot datapoint (a month later?). What happened in the time between to your next dot? Did your truck balance the cells in the next month? Did you have 99-100% charges or leave it OFF...
Glad it worked for you. My Case 1, 2, 3 is intended to quantify:
Case 2-1 parasitic power usage of unloaded DC/AC inverter. Note: the parasitic inverter usage will differ by circuit: cabin 2.4 kW vs. bed 9.6 kW
Case 3-2: Power savings in truck systems with truck OFF and power inverter ON...
Someone with the "Pro Power on while truck off" option should do a test. Charge to 90% before each case. Test for at least 24h to get enough significant figures on the battery discharge. Ideally test for long enough to get 10% HVB discharge. Keep vehicle in garage. Turn HVAC off, headlights...
It takes about 300W to leave the truck ON, turning off every accessory. It’s incredibly inefficient to power a 15W electric cooler. If it’s occasional or you simply do not care about the <5% efficiency, then leave the truck ON.
ProPower on with truck off isn't an option on my 2023. Even if you have it on your Lightning version, people have stated the caveat of needing a 100W load at least every 6 min, which electric coolers will fail.
Leaving the truck ON for short periods is a workaround (disable the 30 min timer)...
I've noticed the "wasted" energy in the 99-100% balancing. The wasted energy varies, but I think it's upwards of 10 kWh lost in those resistors in that last percent balancing. I limit how often I let the vehicle balance in the 99-100% range to minimize $/mi operating cost. I also limit how...
Clear the error with an OBD2 scanner to restore DC fast charging until you can get it serviced. You’ll get normal charging rates to 80%. The truck cautiously reduces charge rate more than normal above this to protect the out of family cell voltage.
The error will return in a few days if you...
Will this 4 motor version head back to Pikes Peak?
Ouch, that's an ugly strike against the Ford Software team and asterisk on the Lightning SuperTruck win I didn't hear about in '24.
