  1. Raptor vs Lightning: the numbers

AND the two trucks do not offer the same over all driving experience, 0-60, passing capability, and just plain fun-factor. LOL. I have a similar outcome per year with about $7400 CAN net savings from gasoline, plus the oil changes, eventual exhaust work, diff fluid service, transfer case -...
  2. What to do with spare ER batteries - Buy the matching truck?

I do not recommend it. I have experience with prismatic cells - my home/business solar ESS is currently 147kWh built from LiFePO4 cells in 16s sets, with room to expand to 300kWh storage. - meaning I know a few things about building cells into 51.2v packs using LiFePO4 cells, programing the...
  3. Introductions & Welcome Thread 👋

yup ! Complete geeks - with power always on LOL.
  4. Introductions & Welcome Thread 👋

I came here along a similar path - rural - solar - heatpumps - off grid living - great big battery that looks like a truck was a natural progression !! If your planning the whole V2H via the charge port - read over the long discussions on this topic. I can't tell you how many hours I poured over...
  5. Introductions & Welcome Thread 👋

I would say you want the 2024-25 for the heat pump. Charging on DC is very fast, charging at home is over-night so it doesn't matter how fast really it will be charged by morning. Welcome to the forum.
  6. 2025 IIHS Moderate overlap front: updated test

I thought that way, until my nestlings built their own nests. Hey here is a new use for the Frunk we took our 1-year-old grandson to a beach to play in the water, we stop to charge up on the way so I know we have lots of spare power. My wife says she is going to change the baby's diaper while...
  7. Priority Update - BCM-24.5.1 - Convenient Frunk Closing

my main solar battery has twin 4/0 welding cables on each side. takes a lot to heat those up, but it happens sometimes. In Canada, most of the time excess heat is a benefit !! Not so much today 29C /84F but Fall is coming...soon.
  8. Priority Update - BCM-24.5.1 - Convenient Frunk Closing

yeah ,it is heat. after it comes up to temperature the DC cord is 35C (95F) based on a laser-temp-gun reading.
  9. Key Tracker?

IT WORKED !!! Thanks Chris, I never was able to get my (cheap Aliexpress) fob to work until I tried out your VooDoo + one more step - and maybe it is a weak battery in the new key, but it will ONLY work if it is inside the cup holder. LOL. in my pocket or laying on the dash the truck says no...
  10. Priority Update - BCM-24.5.1 - Convenient Frunk Closing

Wondered about this, I have a 48A charger, so I put the meter on it: - on the AC side it is pulling 47A at exactly 240V thats 11,280W - on the DC side it is 10.5kW output meaning I am currently heating my shop with a 780W electric heater - apparently. Maybe I should check the power factor...
  11. RIP RAM BEV

Warning - TLDR post follows... I live in a place with frequent winter power outages, with my home and business on side by side properties. When the lights went out with paid staff standing around - something had to change. Solar-battery-back-up to the rescue - at first just enough to keep the...
  12. Introductions & Welcome Thread 👋

I hope these last far Longer than the 2014's !! :) Take it for a nice long drive and enjoy the silent ride. We went on a long 1000km (600mile) trip recently and my wife told our friends "the most unexpected feature is the low noise and charging stops make the trip far less tiring" I had to...
  13. What to do with spare ER batteries - Buy the matching truck?

Single cells? The lightning is pouch cells. Maybe disassemble to packs and work with those as an option, But the easier way with solar is use the full 380VDC as an alternate "PV input" since the inverter will only draw what it needs, and typical Inverter input can handle any DC voltage between...
  14. XLT cheaper than Pro?

I think you need to list out the features/options from each to reaaly know. My own XLT has so many options that were not part of a base 2024 XLT, I had to make a list of them and do some research to 'know' where the price was compared to a build price. I bought the 2024 in Jan 2025 and got a...
  15. Stop Safely Now on start

Good to hear. I bought my truck in January 2025 so had a bit of winter experience. I park in an open car-port where my charger is set up. I plug in as soon as I get in each day and leave it plugged in until I am about to drive away again the next day. I set up the Departure Times, The cabin...
  16. RIP RAM BEV

i firmly believe the battery tech is 'just around the corner' and any major auto maker that doesn't have an EV plateform already to put the new battery tech in, will be so far behind they will never catch up. Remember, N.America is not leading in EV development and adoption, we are following behind.
  17. Stop Safely Now on start

Considering the issues with low 12v SOC especially for those of us with "real winter" half the year...has anyone looked at using a larger capacity 12v battery? or even connecting two in parallel?
  18. Picking up my WHITE PLATINUM Lightning in AM!

Very nice looking truck ! and welcome to the forum. If I can ask, did Ford Motor Co and the Dealer take $ off the MSRP for your purchase? We discuss here the sales figures quite often, and I am curious what the current sales incentives are from Ford and the dealers generally.
  19. RIP RAM BEV

Some generators are 'rated' as stand-by-duty (for back up energy only) while other (more expensive, and efficient) generators are rated as Primary-power, ie designed to run long periods of time instead of occational back-up power units. As we know, a dedicated 60kW generator in industry is...
