We have no issue using the 40 amp Grizz Smart keeping trucks doing 200 miles a day happy. We get 9 kw from them the extra 2 amps going to 48 aren't missed.
I havent used the Emporia chargers however others here swear by them as well - best reporting functionality
What I like about plugged is...
Unless you really need the 48 amps stick with the 40 amp chargers - 48/60s need to be hardwired - mention hardwiring and EV charger to an Electrician and that’s like blood in the water for a shark. A lot of jurisdictions have extra hoops/code/permit requirements for “EV Chargers” that just...
Snow they are just fine, have Dyna’s and Grabbers - on Ice Dyna’s < Grabbers no siping on them for Ice traction.
The AWD does a phenomenal job in snow regardless of tire quality - the ABS has its work cut out for it on ICE with stock tires
Likely counter to most opinions after some hairy slush/ice driving One pedal is off in winter. Also turned off the Hold feature at a stop, on ice I find the trucks are safer to let them roll ahead easing off brake that using the pedal can trigger sliding - this being in worst of ice conditions...
Simplest/cheapest - Grizzl-e from United Chargers for $399. 50 amp breaker from Home Depot for $39, 50 ft 8awg Simplex for $129. Nema 14-50 outdoor plug $39 Cdn Tire. 6 ft Flex Conduit and ends $25.
DIY if you are handy or any competent electrician under an hour install.
Some would say I’m stubborn, but decided to prove a point over holidays. My son and I took upon us a task of road tripping it from the Great White North to the land of the Mouse.
Bad news for all the click baiters, it went off without a hitch.
The start: We did get off to a bit of a rough...
No on the Frunk, but a 20kw "skid tank" would make my day. Particularly if it ever hits the $100/kw pack price.
I just don't see it being as simple as a 12v pump and a hose into tank ;)
Have both Ford and A2Z, Ford fits easily with zero force needed vs A2Z is snug (not in force needed but that micron tighter).
When 1st got Ford thought maybe too lose in seating but since then used 50+ times its my go to of the 2.
Suggest take a look inside port itself if any defects where...
I suspect most peoples experience is similar, pleasantly impressed with vehicle, love the fuel savings, scratching head a few times.
Pet peeve gripes Ford has quietly fixed via updates (ie whens last time anyone had a 12v issue?). Some things they can still do better - physical preconditioning...
Have both the A2Z and the Ford, they both work fine - the Ford bangs around in the door pocket the A2Z goes back in its padded case. Pretty much sums up the quality, Ford gets the job done the A2Z will still be kicking in 10 years.
Destination is likely handy but hasnt been a factor worthy of...
Found a couple spots going cross country that have two banks of Tesla chargers - one set is compatible one is not - after about 5 minutes of range anxiety at 3 am figured this out.
AARP directed to old pedestals, Tesla App to new useable pedestals, Ford App doesn't no either exist.
The sales staff are the #1 cause, more so then dealers themselves - some very uneducated and downright hostile to EVs.
Basic sales they play on existing prejudice to get their sales. I've bought all of ours basically online sight unseen below MSRP from these types of places.
In middle of a...
Based on your testing and observations any recommendation for ideal "L2" charger - looking like ~11kw? We're popping our L2's that put out 9 KW right now, can probably swing 60 amp breakers to step up to a full 48 charger the 100 amp for the FCSP's is a bit more of a capacity challenge.
We...
Excellent info Taxman! We've made our L2's cry the last few days (over current errors) which I suspect is that 18kw spike tripping them! Coming to a truck with an "error" charger at -30 is not my idea of a good time (nor the skin off my thumb resetting breakers).
I was particularly mean to...
For info here's our calculations which operating data has backed up, even if we charged 100% at Tesla DCFC (we don't) - the Lightning still is a smart purchase.
Values are in Cdn, so take 70% for USD conversion. Your Fuel prices and Electricity will also vary.
Right now I'd put an ICE vs...
It works below 0 right down to -35 (tested last winter) its -20C outside at the moment and it trickles away.
The orange light of death when I get it usually is the 110 adaptor isnt clicked fully into the power supply or your gfci needs to be reset its partially tripped.
Displayed Range means very little, in city I get 25 kw/h which is 550+ kms - on highway 40 kw/h or 320 km.
Now if you use Nav it gets a bit smarter and uses speed limits to give you a better estimate of range and adjusts expectations. If you go over speed limit then your range will be even...
