I checked out a Lariat last week, but didn't like what they were quoting me for my trade in. Was planning on checking out 2 more dealers with 2023s on their lots next week, but going to cancel those plans. Makes no sense for me to pay $7500 more a couple weeks later.
I've decided I want to trade in my R1T for an F150 Lightning. There are 3 dealers within 50 miles of me that have a Lariat ER in stock, and they are all selling MSRP - $7500 incentive. I'm only in the snow a few days out of the year, so I don't think the heat pump is going to matter much to me...
I'm starting to lean the other way. I passed on my 22 Lightning, but considering ordering a 24. After 2 bad service experiences with Rivian, and the back seats being too small for 2 car seats and an adult to fit comfortably in the R1T, I might go back to Ford.
Only advantage I see Rivian having...
This is how it should have been priced at the beginning. Lariat ER should have been below $80k to get the tax credit. I'm really considering throwing in another reservation now.
I have an R1T, and the size of the backseat is the biggest disappointment. The truck is almost as wide as an F150 Lightning, but it has 8" less hip room.
Ford really needs to move faster towards EV only dealerships and EV only service centers. Its clear going through this thread that regular service centers aren't sufficient.
The problem with that though, is the tax credit is only for trucks with MSRP of 80k. Even SR Lariat is out at this point. Only Pro and XLT SR will qualify.
Went in to look at the truck today. Was able to do a test drive as well. The most noticeable thing is how quiet it rides. It does feel big when I'm driving it, bigger than when I drive the Rivian. Its been a while since I had my F150 Lariat, so I wasn't used to the size. At the end of the day...
It did decently, though for some reason it seemed to prefer to steer towards large vehicles instead of away. I think with time Ford will have good performing driver assistance.
I'll let the Ford dealer make my decision for me. They called me today to tell me it arrived, but they were closed by time I could call them back. I emailed the internet sales manager to see when a good time to setup a call would be. I think the Lightning will work better for me, but the R1T is...
Pretty much if you are not driving a Tesla, you need to plan your route in advance. That means using something like ABRP and checking Plugshare to see if stations are broken. The Lightning maxes out at 170 kw from what I've seen from other videos, but EA is unreliable, so I'm not that surprised...
I'm actually ok right now if my F150 Lightning doesn't come until July. I need time to get the title mailed to me for my Rivian R1T. Going to see what the dealership will offer me to trade it in, and decide which truck to keep based off of that.
