I read from Musk tweets it's Plaid, quad motor, dual motor. Given T's history... the base dual motor will be delayed to the point where people give up on waiting and order it with expensive options like 4 wheel steering. Those of us who were excited by seeing $50K at the 2019 reveal, have to be...
Ford says the L has 4% less aero drag than the gasser version. With a drag coefficient around .44, ER should be able to get 350 miles, 65 mph, 70F, sea level. I no longer care to drive for 5 hours straight anyway.
What I assume a dealer knows is the prioritized list they sent to Ford. How those lists are ranked against each other at corporate...., only corporate knows.
Ford graphic shows 6 waves. Divide by number of retail Lightnings for 2022 and that's about 2000. 2100 EV certified dealers so..... about 1 per dealer per wave. I'm #2 at my dealer so I guess I go second wave.
I was "shocked" that the 312A package priced at $9500. Expected it to be maybe $5K. So with TTL I'm looking at 80K OTD. Tax credit would ease some of the pain but that is still a hella expensive truck. That kind of MSRP will also be reflected in insurance costs, licensing fees.
See what happens...
The verbage is confusing, I don't whether that's the allocation or Ford's expectations of what gets ordered. I intend to order an XLT 312 extended myself.
I think I will reserve a Silverado EV on Jan. 5. If I'm not in wave 1, I may find my preferred configuration sold out, and taking delivery after mid 2022 may mean the tax credit won't be 7500 anymore.
Life is simple with an EV. Just set the cruise control and drive. All the hypermiling stuff originated with internal combustion engines. As far as drafting trucks.... I've seen recaps come apart and debris flying all over. Don't want any part of that. 1 insurance claim cancels a lifetime of...
I would suppose many prospective Lariat owners like myself were counting on the $12500 tax credit. Now, even an XLT will be a swallow hard moment when I push the confirm button the order.
As far as the shifter goes.... rotary dial on the dash for a clean sheet design.
EV owner here with some science. Extended battery contains the energy of 4 gallons of gas. Electric drivetrains are about 3X as efficient than a gas ones. So pretend your Lightning is a F-150 with a 12 gallon gas tank, could you make do with that?
Where the Lightning will really shine is stop...
I read Lightning orders will require a positive ID to verify the person named on the order is a bona fide customer and not a straw purchaser.
Now what might happen is when the "Mannequin" becomes available Mr. Great Long Term Customer might get to the front of the line on that.
I read Ford has already decided how many of each trim will be built. But these are crazy times, while you'd think they would get the cash flow going with the expensive trims first, parts available may dictate the production schedule.
I'm going with high level XLT with 9.6 kw and extended...
