Can you provide a source for this claim? If it were "necessary", then every DCFC station would have a bank of storage batteries. But stations with batteries are quite obvious, at least the EA and Tesla stations are, because they have very large extra cabinets of equipment, which are clearly...
Number 9627, order placed 2/29. I just received an apology by email from Ford for the delay in shipment - which makes me strongly suspect they are receiving/shipping the adapters in large batches, have run out again, and it'll be a long time from June until I see mine. Order status page still...
If I were one of the dealers who had already made the investment for DC chargers, special tools, additional training etc. I would sure be angry right now. I wonder if Ford is doing anything to take care of them.
If they aren't, from the customer point of view it is hard to see how effectively...
I'm sorry to have to keep reiterating this, but what you write above is substantially misleading at best and false at worst.
A J1772 EVSE transmits a pilot signal that tells the vehicle how many amps it may draw. The vehicle controls how many amps it actually does draw. It could not be any...
Yeah? Try it and find out.
Unless there has been a firmware change since I last checked this, the F150L will never draw more than 12A at 120V no matter what the EVSE says is available.
It is easy to test this with any reasonable-quality mobile connector (in other words: not Ford's). Try it...
Doesn't the truck's firmware limit 120V charging to 12A no matter what the EVSE says is available? So it's actually worse than with other EVs - even if a 30A 120V outlet is available, it will be used as if it were 15A.
I strongly disagree. The gist of the original post was quite clearly that the truck stopped dead with plenty of charge showing; and before that, that the charge radically dropped off while driving conditions remained the same.
This is a problem with the vehicle and it's Ford's fault. I think...
Continuing to drive while at 3%-10% charge is not a thing that should "not work a couple of years on". No other manufacturer's EVs that I'm aware of have this problem.
Continuing to report the correct state of charge -- as opposed to diving suddenly from 22% to 10% etc as reported by the OP...
22% is not "extremely low" and neither is 10%. And, honestly, neither is 3%, if you only have 5 miles to go to home. 3% of the rated range is 10 miles.
This problem should not be possible. It can be nobody's fault but @Ford Motor Company and I hope they make it right.
Maybe they had a problem with tolerances on the locking mechanism, like others have, and had to pause shipments while they resolved it.
So far we have Lectron totally mis-designing the lock (or mismanufacturing it systematically and severely - who can say?) so the adapter could come loose while...
I haven't tried to run an air compressor or a welder. That said, I haven't had any trouble with a big Bosch chipping hammer, a DeWalt circle saw, a 14" Porter-Cable chop saw (really meant for cutting aluminum siding, but we use it with a demo blade to shorten the occasional fire log that won't...
Actually it's because allowing the vehicle to start up with electronic stability control disabled violates FMVSS 126, and some of the drive modes disable ESC. Rather than locking out Off-Road mode from being saved, Ford rolled back the whole feature.
The inverter powering these outlets is the same one powering the 30A outlet. If you try to draw more than 30A total from the outlets in the bed, no matter what dangerous wiring hack you resort to, you will blow the breaker.
How are you envisioning this would work? The battery is a DC load. It's attached to the truck's 120V AC outlets via its own (the battery's) charge controller, which controls current drawn by the battery by adjusting its (the charger's) output voltage. How would the truck control this?
My wife's done that twice. She still gets a blank white screen on app startup - a symptom other iOS users have reported as well - and is consequently now locked out of our truck unless she carries a fob around with her.
Well done, Ford.
Are they actually shipping from Ford, or from Tesla? Because as a nearly 10 year Tesla owner, I can tell you with confidence Tesla's going to do whatever they feel like, no matter what the paperwork says, and then tell you you should feel good about it. Except I guess now they're saying that...
Actually, no need to even stop by and try it - Tesla's own app in "Charge my other EV" mode gives a clear answer. This station, which is equipped with brand new V4 chargers, is offered as an option for charging my Lightning.
