Update from B&W - Their Engineering is working on it...
".. let you know we got a 2021 F150 in house yesterday and at this time the part#GNRK1115 is not going to work on the 2021 F150 trucks. Engineering is working on a hitch design for the 2021 F150 and I will let you know as soon as I know...
@daemonic3 - I was just trying to understand why PB trucks have a low payload. I believe that it is not the axle ratings that are driving it but the fact that the weight of the batteries has added while not upgrading the springs.
Excellent post!
All the payload discussion focuses on the axles and differences in axle specification. However, I have seen no mention of the springs. Aren't the springs directly influencing the payload? My sense is that Ford is not varying the springs by the trim/options/tow packages much and...
@daemonic3 - Thanks a lot for your advice. I kind of figured that. It's not going to be easy... But, having a high quality rear camera for the trailer integrated into F150's system seems like a huge improvement over a low resolution backup camera with standalone display.
Thank you very much! My trailer is a 21-ft Escape 5th wheel. I have the option to buy their camera but it is wireless and comes with its own monitor. I don't want monitors for backup camera, TPMS, etc. cluttering the inside of the truck if possible...
The problem is that I am not a DIY person...
How/where does one find details of the trailer camera?
I am buying a camping trailer and it has an option for a wireless backup camera. But, it requires a display monitor wired with 12V plug. The trailer is a 5th wheel (small), if that matters.
I'd prefer to avoid that if I could get a trailer...
Thank you! All the best.
You could consider replacing the 6V batteries with Lithium (but not sure about low temperature performance but not many camp is real cold weather). Lithium are less than half the weight...
Do you need FX4 for snow? You can have 4x4 without FX4...
What trailer, if I may ask? I am planning on Escape 5.0 - with dry tongue weight of 630 lbs. I am counting on about 800 lbs in loaded tongue weight...
I am not doing any rug, but did opt for soft tonneau, which will add 25 lbs.
Only...
Thanks a lot! From payload perspective -
(More Payload) No FX4 (plan 4x4)
(Less Payload) - Max Tow, lay flat seats, 7.2kW generator, soft tonneau
Was hoping for something approaching 1400# but looks like I'd be lucky to end up close to where you are.
Hi Bill, Very helpful! Could you please share your build? I just ordered a 6.5' PB Platinum. So, would like to see how your build compares with what I have and where the payload might end up being.
What is HPP? Is it heavy payload package? What does it impact (beyond what it says)?
I have a 4x4 Plat - PB - 157”. Does that have a higher payload? Based upon what I read - is is 20# less than the 145”.
Just trying to understand what you are driving at. Obviously interested in increasing the...
I had a very nice communication with Verlin Keninger at Demco. Looks like they will have a 5th wheel hitch for 2021 F150 in about 6 weeks. I had specifically raised the under body changes related to the PowerBoost engine with them in my communication.
Demco is familiar with the new F-150. We...
Thank you for starting this thread. For myself, the closest sticker I have found was from the Platinum Tireman bought. It’s from a Plat with max tow, FX4, 701A, 7.2kW truck with PB. There are very few PB stickers, perhaps because so few have been delivered.
It is almost certainly GVWR and not the payload. You need to subtract the GCW (Gross Curb Weight) to get to the payload. If PB - the payload is a number (significantly) below 1830#.
I have the umbrella but still concerned. We will not knowingly overload the truck but we aren’t going to have a weigh station handy each time either. So, with the low payload, there is a possibility that we are over the limit by, say, 50 lbs sometime for some reason one did not know before the...
To be honest, I am mostly worried about implications in case of an accident. I am quite certain that exceeding the payload by 50 or 100# isn’t going to affect anything. Also, Ford isn’t exactly giving much credit for things like max tow that ought to improve the payload. It is the liability...
