As much as I don’t want to admit it, I don’t think neither me nor my friend have the appetite to work around Ford’s rules here.
There are a lot of good suggestions in here that I’m sure would work if we committed to them, but we both aren’t super familiar with the laws and processes that would...
Update: My friend contacted the dealer and explained our predicament. The dealer responded and said that 1) if my friend doesn’t take delivery, the truck will be theirs to sell “at market value” and 2) that if he does take delivery, he must sign a “no resale agreement” that restricts him from...
The way I see it, the dealer can make some extra money by charging me a small ADM (they let me buy the truck directly), or I can pay the state sales tax instead if they try to gouge me (my friend buys the truck and I buy it off of him). So I think there is a little bit of an incentive to work...

Just wanted to say thank you everyone for the replies and suggestions! This is my first time interacting with this community and I’m blown away by the thoughtfulness and responsiveness!

The ADM being tacked on is our biggest concern with just going to the dealer and trying to work this out. Right now there is none, but I’m skeptical it would remain that way.
The two names on a title idea is a good one. My friend and I are very close so...
My friend has a Lightning currently in production that he no longer wants. We’re aware that reservations aren’t transferable, so we’ve been scratching our heads as to how he can pick up the truck at the dealer, and I pay him for it without us being doubly taxed. (Once for him when he purchases...
