  1. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

Try loading up the Mach E PIDs (found on the Mach E forum) to see what the Lightning Actual vs Displayed SOCs are at.
  2. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

It's not like a glass of water where you fill in the bottom, and it is not cells being held in reserve (don't remember who said this) but is controlled based on voltage. Let's say that Vmax is 4.2 V and Vmin is 2.7 V at the cell level (NOTE: Yes we have data at the pack level but I have not...
  3. Did my dealer inadvertently hurt my battery?

You should search for the SAE paper we published many years ago about the degradation in Telsa NCA (specifically Model S 18650s) cells when using the fast charging profile followed by an aggressive discharge profile. You might be surprised at how quickly they reached end-of-life conditions...
  4. Is charging in cold safe?

Charging a cell below 25C will induce lithium plating as will charging at high C rates at any temperature. Fortunately, the BMS will warm up the battery before charging and will derate charging before it gets into the conditions that will cause lithium plating.
  5. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

I've seen a lot of questions on the nuances of charging, including DMs for more information, which is the reason I deleted a lot of the old posts and was reluctant to reply in this thread...I tend to give away propriety information, so I have not replied to this or other threads (I'm looking at...
  6. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

I make sure I'm using shore power when above 90F and below 50F, but in general, I use shore power the night before every weekday so the cabin temp is set to the appropriate temperature...just have to change the warm/medium/cool based on the next day's temperature and that I'm at 85% SOC the next...
  7. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

To add on to the cycle life...L3 (highest discharge current, highest charge current, highest delta SOC, but best temperature is the hardest conditions to program the cyclers for, but shows the second highest dedragation on life, just behind L9 (highest temperature, highest discharge current...
  8. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

I've been running the ESTC for over 11 years...I have a lot of anecdotal and historical data I get to pull from. While we have a lot of individual clients, we also run a consortium that tests at the cell level. I will focus on this area since the cell level dictates everything at the module...
  9. ๐Ÿ™‹‍โ™‚๏ธ What Did You Do To Your Lightning Today?

Yes, I know it is AF Com, which ranks below the MSM. I'm rocking Desert Storm plates because I'm that old. Regardless, my opinion doesn't really matter, so you rock what you want and earned.
  10. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

Based on the limited details I can find about the F150L fire, I wonder if it is the same reason for the Tesla fire at a Norway (maybe Sweden) Super Charger... extremely high resistance at the charge port (bad/dirty/loose connection) caused localized heating that was enough to start a fire AT the...
  11. ๐Ÿ™‹‍โ™‚๏ธ What Did You Do To Your Lightning Today?

I guess you don't want to hear what I think of people rocking MSM plates :sneaky:
  12. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

Yes, I had to delete a lot of posts after I reread them the next day and would question if the head shed would decide I gave away too much information.
  13. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

It is important to remember that cells in parallel will self-balance, but strings in series will not without bleed resisters designed to lower the voltage of strings that are too high.
  14. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

Really depends on the BMS operation. We recently learned that a major OEM that we are doing a lot of work for that their onboard BMS won't ACTUALLY shut things down if Vmax is violated for an individual string. We have to manually monitor all strings when charging their packs for testing...
  15. [Updated with Ford statement 2/15/23] ๐Ÿ›‘ Lightning Stop Production / Stop Shipment Issued (due to potential battery issue)

I've only been involved in testing EVs and batteries for 12 years, so maybe this is just wild speculation, but I'm willing to lay money on what I think is the reason for the one fire and the many letters going out to customers about MODULE replacements...Could it be mismatched voltages between...
  16. Finding part numbers

If anyone has the part number for the HVB modules, I'm in the market for 4-5 of them ;)
  17. SuperBowl LVII - Will Ferrell in GM's new EV Silverado - 30 new Ultium EVs...

Bolt is not Ultium based...it is BEV3.
  18. What's the farthest you've gone on a single charge?

Humidity levels varied between 52%-93% throughout the day (1/23/2023) as I had to respond to several situations at the Institute during the day. I rounded out the miles due to not caring about the ACTUAL miles I had to drive that particular day, which was the high point of miles driven between...
