The shifter is electronic. Something internally is failing and producing a bad signal. Mine hasn't failed so I haven't bothered to take it apart and find the actual cause.

The replacement part has been superceeded 8 times, looks like it's used in many ford's since 2021. Mines out now too, going to troubleshoot it next week when I've got a few spare minutes.
