  1. My home electric bill has basically doubled in the past 4 months! WTF is going on?

Not if someone elsewhere can bid the value away from local users which often happens in the case of wind and solar in states with less green initiatives Indiana.
  2. My home electric bill has basically doubled in the past 4 months! WTF is going on?

Electricity is not transmitted over long distances but it is ā€œtradedā€ nationally and internationally including Canada. Some of my former students make 6 to 7 figure salaries doing this all day long with their counterparts across the country. It’s a combination of risk management and offsetting...
  3. My home electric bill has basically doubled in the past 4 months! WTF is going on?

State boundaries do not apply to energy markets. At a minimum, one would need to conduct an analysis of this sort at the grid operator level. Even then because different states within a grid operator territory have different green energy incentives there is substantial ā€œtradingā€ of electricity...
  4. My home electric bill has basically doubled in the past 4 months! WTF is going on?

You have until the end of the year to break ground on solar and qualify for the federal tax incentives. Rate hikes are only going to get worse. Coal and natural gas don’t pay for the utilities and society has turned against large scale wind, solar, and nuclear. Demand is rising and supply is...
  5. Intended use for slotted space on front console?

    Aldi’s cart quarter holder.
  6. Chirping/clicking noise when first driving

I wasn’t really trying for humor. When I did something chirping in the recording it did not sound mechanical. You mentioned that you hear it when the truck on and when it is off which sounds like it could be an animal and I have first hand experience with them getting in there. I would pull out...
  7. Chirping/clicking noise when first driving

Mouse or bird in the cabin filter area? I recently had the filter replaced and they found a nest. Service agent said if the AC is on recirculate the critters can get in there.
  8. Anyone file by mail to claim EV Tax Credit?

Go back to the dealer and ask them to do it. IRS opened a portal for them to submit even though they were supposed to do so within 3 days. I had to push hard, but my dealer finally did it. Get the form and file an amended return. It’s your money.
  9. Anyone file by mail to claim EV Tax Credit?

Who is the dealer? Maybe they collected the incentive and decided to keep it. I had to threaten legal action and the dealer finally complied. Refund check arrived this week.
  10. Do you use your Lightning for an interesting work application? Tell us about it.

Here’s a unique one. We produce a few tons of honey and when harvesting it’s nice to have a blower in the field to push the last bees out of the frames so they don’t end up back in the honey shed. Pre-Lightning we could have used a gas generator to power the blower but the noise and vibration...
  11. Anyone file by mail to claim EV Tax Credit?

I always paper file. IRS can’t leak a bank account they don’t have and it keeps someone busy entering data rather than auditing. It is generally August before the check arrives.
  12. What is this?

It’s a solid rubber plug about an inch long with no drain hole. Google Lens brings up a Kubota tractor plug upon searching, but I don’t have a Kubota tractor.
  13. What is this?

Found two on the garage floor where I park the Lightning. Looks like a drain plug but for what
  14. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

I always paper file. Don’t expect your check until mid to late summer. Years ago it was faster but the past 5 or so years they have cut back on staff who handle paper filings and things have been delayed dramatically.
  15. Truck smells like a catbox on hot and humid days

Cats love sardines. Get yourself a live trap and see what you catch. Fair warning however, raccoons and skunks also enjoy sardines.
  16. Getting dropped by State Farm for several not-at-fault claims 😔 who are you using to insure your Lightning(s) and how's it working out?

Join your state’s Farm Bureau and get your insurance through them. They are used to the sort of eclectic mix of vehicles you have. Rates are typically competitive after you add on the membership fee. Depending on your slant and state you may or may not be happy with their lobbying efforts paid...
  17. Electric Vehicle Range Extender Generator

Carry a Tesla powerwall and charge it up before you leave home? It’s like having a really heavy person along for the ride. Obviously, several technical hurdles and it won’t save time, but it just might squeeze into the froot (my Aussie wife does not like the term frunk).
  18. A Mach-E pulls into a Tesla Supercharger.

I asked AI to take the challenge of completing the joke. Here’s what I received: A Tesla and a Mach-E pull into a charging station. The Tesla says, ā€œWatts up?ā€ The Mach-E replied, ā€œNothing much, just getting amped up for the drive ahead.ā€ AI still has a long way to go.
  19. Congress proposes shocking new fee on EVs

If you discount your future $250 annual tax back to present value at 5% then you will still have $1,290 present day dollars in your pocket after 100 years. I just hope they really use the tax revenue to maintain highways.
