  1. Anyone file by mail to claim EV Tax Credit?

    Go back to the dealer and ask them to do it. IRS opened a portal for them to submit even though they were supposed to do so within 3 days. I had to push hard, but my dealer finally did it. Get the form and file an amended return. It’s your money.
  2. Anyone file by mail to claim EV Tax Credit?

    Who is the dealer? Maybe they collected the incentive and decided to keep it. I had to threaten legal action and the dealer finally complied. Refund check arrived this week.
  3. Do you use your Lightning for an interesting work application? Tell us about it.

    Here’s a unique one. We produce a few tons of honey and when harvesting it’s nice to have a blower in the field to push the last bees out of the frames so they don’t end up back in the honey shed. Pre-Lightning we could have used a gas generator to power the blower but the noise and vibration...
  4. Anyone file by mail to claim EV Tax Credit?

    I always paper file. IRS can’t leak a bank account they don’t have and it keeps someone busy entering data rather than auditing. It is generally August before the check arrives.
  5. What is this?

    It’s a solid rubber plug about an inch long with no drain hole. Google Lens brings up a Kubota tractor plug upon searching, but I don’t have a Kubota tractor.
  6. What is this?

    Found two on the garage floor where I park the Lightning. Looks like a drain plug but for what
  7. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    I always paper file. Don’t expect your check until mid to late summer. Years ago it was faster but the past 5 or so years they have cut back on staff who handle paper filings and things have been delayed dramatically.
  8. Truck smells like a catbox on hot and humid days

    Cats love sardines. Get yourself a live trap and see what you catch. Fair warning however, raccoons and skunks also enjoy sardines.
  9. Getting dropped by State Farm for several not-at-fault claims 😔 who are you using to insure your Lightning(s) and how's it working out?

    Join your state’s Farm Bureau and get your insurance through them. They are used to the sort of eclectic mix of vehicles you have. Rates are typically competitive after you add on the membership fee. Depending on your slant and state you may or may not be happy with their lobbying efforts paid...
  10. Electric Vehicle Range Extender Generator

    Carry a Tesla powerwall and charge it up before you leave home? It’s like having a really heavy person along for the ride. Obviously, several technical hurdles and it won’t save time, but it just might squeeze into the froot (my Aussie wife does not like the term frunk).
  11. A Mach-E pulls into a Tesla Supercharger.

    I asked AI to take the challenge of completing the joke. Here’s what I received: A Tesla and a Mach-E pull into a charging station. The Tesla says, ā€œWatts up?ā€ The Mach-E replied, ā€œNothing much, just getting amped up for the drive ahead.ā€ AI still has a long way to go.
  12. Congress proposes shocking new fee on EVs

    If you discount your future $250 annual tax back to present value at 5% then you will still have $1,290 present day dollars in your pocket after 100 years. I just hope they really use the tax revenue to maintain highways.
  13. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    Thanks! This was hugely helpful. After 2 months claiming they did what they obviously didn’t do, a screen shot showing my EV credit lacking on this IRS site was what it finally took to get the dealer to file in the portal. They got a ā€œPending Reviewā€ response. Anyone have an idea how long that...
  14. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    I know where to check the status of my refund, but where do you check the dealer submission?
  15. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    What they sent me is their handwritten version. It’s pretty clear that they screwed up the process. It’s surprising that they haven’t figured that out because it’s a big dealership that sells a lot of cars. I have them working on it. Hopefully, they will sort it out.
  16. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    Everything on the form is correct but it’s just a form they filled out. Should they have a response from the IRS acknowledging receipt?
  17. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    I have the form, but there’s no guarantee they submitted it in the 3-day window. I sent them the link to npr story with a suggestion that if they missed that window this is their chance to redeem themselves.
  18. Dealerships that didn't provide paperwork for EV Tax Credit {Solution post #119}

    Tried to e-file in early March and it was rejected. Contacted the dealer who insists they filed the paperwork (probably didn’t) and sent me copies. Repeatedly rejected on e-file. So, I did a paper file with copies of everything. I guess I will know in September when they finally get around to my...
  19. Coming flood of Used EV's ...

    Musk is getting a big military deal for his truck so he’s probably content.
  20. i need serious help on this decision

    Everyone wants a truck but not everyone needs a truck. It sounds like you may eventually need a bigger care for a growing family. If you want to stay electric, then check out the Toyota bZ4X. Likely, holds its value a bit better but lower range than your mustang. It also sounds like this is not...
