I went basically an entire year (2024) without charging at Electrify America, based on my issues on past road trips. But after trying them out earlier this year, they've become my most reliable network in this one road tripper's anecdotal experience, and issues at Tesla have become more common...
Love IONNA - and since they're in the BlueOval Charge Network activation is easy with FordPass.
Same hardware is also being deployed by other networks - like Mercedes-Benz and bp pulse - also both BlueOval Charge Network members!
Those chargers are not Ford Charge, but it's always up to the dealer whether to offer public charging - hard to know what's going on from the photo, what dealer is this?
Also in the BlueOval Charge Network for easy activation with FordPass.
Not all dealers are Ford Charge, but most dealers should be BlueOval Charge Network.
Activating a charger with Ford Charge should be the same as with any of the 21 BlueOval Charge Network partners inside of FordPass - just like ChargePoint, EVgo, or any other. Would love to learn what can be improved.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes! I used BC Hydro back in 2023 on a road trip from Michigan to Vancouver in my Mustang Mach-E and would have loved having everything in FordPass back then.
(thank Saskatchewan for all those bugs on the way over)
The good news is the vast majority of the BlueOval Charge Network partners have no complicated memberships and pricing to deal with - BlueOval Charge Network members get the same price as using those network's app, but without the hassle of all those apps.
Check the FordPass app before you head to any Tesla charger to see if it's compatible. Incompatible Tesla stations will be marked as "Station Not Compatible" so avoid those. At compatible Tesla stations, you should be able to just plug in and charge with your BlueOval Charge Network account, but...
If you're using the included adapter, it will not work on Destination Chargers - the Fast Charging Adapter is for DC Fast Chargers only. Do you have an adapter specifically for the Tesla Destination Chargers and it still didn't work?
This sounds like when I had a faulty USB cable and it was intermittently connecting to the phone.
The prompt is triggered once, when an iPhone (or a similar Android Auto prompt if an Android) is plugged in - I do this *all* the time with one iPhone wirelessly connected to CarPlay and the other...
It does not, but thanks for asking! :)
My trips are almost always adventures, even on routes I repeatedly travel. Charging at the same places all the time is boring, I switch it up as much as I possibly can.
I've charged at dozens of dealers (mostly Ford, and mostly Ford Charge network, some Blink which I prefer less) across the country, and haven't yet had a bad experience. On many trips, I'll go out of my way to charge there.
As pointed out earlier in the thread, if you choose the Ford Power Promise complimentary charger and standard installation now, it will probably not be a Ford Charge Station Pro that you receive - unless that dealer still has one in store to hand over (but most dealers have long depleted theirs...
That's not true for vehicles with Connected Built-In Navigation. Chargers are still added to routes if required.
However, the chargers that are added are potentially out of date, as the last time the database was updated was when the subscription was active. The navigation provider's data...
Totally get why folks like CarPlay and Android Auto routing, but from someone who prefers Connected Nav:
By default, Connected Navigation will automatically add chargers to any route.
When using Connected Navigation, Intelligent Range considers outside air temperature, elevation changes...
I drove via Stevens Point, WI actually!
It was awesome, I really had no charging issues at all on the trip other than having to unplug and replug at a few Superchargers and one EVgo. 22 EA stops, 11 Tesla, 16 other networks.
Shamless plug (and pics)...
Awesome! Love to see epic road trips like this with the Lightning! I just did a Michigan to Seattle to LA to Michigan trip in mine and it was an incredible experience - but no trailer on mine. Love to see Lightnings as tow rigs on road trips!
IONNA is in the BlueOval Charge Network - but that is not the same thing as Plug & Charge.
At IONNA - like at all 14 networks in the BlueOval Charge Network you can use FordPass to pay - just tap Energy and then tap Public Charging. At EA and Tesla you can also use Plug & Charge.
The networks...
To use the Ford Mobile Power Cord at 240V, you need a NEMA 14-50 outlet.
To install a NEMA 14-50 outlet, you need (per code) a 40A or 50A circuit.
Continuous load devices (like chargers) need to use 80% or less of a circuit's capacity. (32A on 40A, 12A on 15A, 48A on 60A, etc.).
So to do this...
