  1. Pro Power Ground Locations

I don't agree. From a safety standpoint it doens't make sense to completely isolate the frame from the generator. The whole purpose of the grounding is to provide an electrical path that will keep a person from electrocution when a fault occurs. Isolating the frame denies this path.
  2. Powering a Home

Spoke with my dealer GM today. The Floating Neutral vs Bonded Neutral came up (eg he agreed to push Ford about it). He stated that Ford has said, to him, that they're working on it. Apparently Ford has gotten many requests to fix that. I noted that for his geographic area, there are many...
  3. Pairing with another generator

3600w on 220v means you're only using one of two lugs that have power...
  4. Pairing with another generator

On the AC Side this is unsafe, you don't have the equipment to parallel generators. On the DC Side of the voltage regulators aren't matched as to Load droop, it is also unsafe...
  5. 3.5l Ecoboost first tow observations & concerns

Read the Ford Towing document. It specifies an area square foot limit.
  6. Charging voltage

The battery in the F-150 is an AGM (Absorbed Gass Mat) battery. As best I can determine they operate a bit differently. I had occasion to swap mine out. Usinge a voltmeter it appears to operate at a constant 12.6 VDC. Even though I charged the new one up to a level above 13.2 on the charger...
  7. Pro Power Ground Locations

I believe that the ground "shorting" to the frame because of water intrusion somewhere is not what's going on. The Ground of the Pro-Power system is already connected to the truck's frame. Hence I beieve that the gound being seen is water intrusion (if it is a water problem) between the "hot...
  8. TFL First EV Truck Tow Test (Rivian)

Another item about batteries to consider is that the greater the amperage draw out of the battery the less efficient it is. This occurs because there is internal resistance that produces heat (I squared R losses) and because that internal resistance lowers the output voltage thus calling for a...
  9. TFL First EV Truck Tow Test (Rivian)

My purpose was to cause a consideration of fuel consmed to fuel consumed. Electricity merely moves energy from Point A to Point B. Burning fuel releases energy, electricity transfers it from creation to consumption. That was really all I sought to convey.
  10. TFL First EV Truck Tow Test (Rivian)

At the end of the day run the numbers as you are moved. It is not so simple... As to the emissions, all you do with an electric vehicle is move the tailpipe. Don't interpret these posts as criticizing electric vehices... I've had a hybrid since about 2006... Good vehicle and I've done my part by...
  11. TFL First EV Truck Tow Test (Rivian)

Isaac Asimov once wrote a short paper: In the world of Energy and and Power You Can't Even Break Even. Hence the energy consumed to deliver that electricity into the battery should be allocated to that 123kW-Hrs. Since most grid delivered power comes from a Heat Engine, the Carnot Efficiency...
  12. TFL First EV Truck Tow Test (Rivian)

Well, you could, but then there would be a similar calculation for the energy that drives the prime mover powering the grid.
  13. TFL First EV Truck Tow Test (Rivian)

As to the kW-Hrs consumed by the Rivian, it is misleading. The 123 kW-Hr should be corrected to reflect the energy consumed to generate that electricity. Such a correction for the prime mover that produced the electricity. Then you need to correct that 123kW-Hrs to reflect the actual energy in...
  14. Pro Power 2KW Opinions..Worth It?

Although 2 kW is kinda small for a house... the 2 kW is a floating neutral generator and could be directly plugged into your house, unlike the 2.4 & 7.2 kW inverter generators which are bonded neutral generators. These will trip the ground fault circuit in the truck if connected to the house...
  15. After Market Battery Upgrade

How the manufacturer specifies electrolyte purity will have much to do with battery longevity. Ford, in their Escape Hybrid which uses a NiMH battery, appears to have specified a very high purity of electrolyte. They had stocked up on batteries anticipating a certain failure rate. The reality is...
  16. Question on standard range for current EV owners

Regarding wind resistance of an F-150... I have a PowerBoost F-150. In a headwind it really sucks the gasoline. Mileage drops from about 24-26 at 65mph to as low as 12-15. It goes on the turbos. I have learned to drop speed as much as 15mph when facing a stiff headwind.
  17. The small AMG battery under the rear seat on a Powerboost.

If you go to change the transmission oil & filter yourself... Be careful. According to my dealer, it is not a simple pan drop. There is some significant interference that must be moved to drop the pan... If I have it right in order for the pan to clear the filter and remove it, you have to...
  18. The small AMG battery under the rear seat on a Powerboost.

BTW, the transmission Filter for the PB is different than non-PB transmissions, if you go in to have it changed make the dealer check your VIN and get the correct filter. Also it runs nearly $100@. I use AmsOil lubricants. I looked up the specs for AmsOil Transmission fluid. It is not the...
  19. The small AMG battery under the rear seat on a Powerboost.

I take a long view of maintenance. There is no way they can get all manufacturing residue out of things. So I have taken to changing oils early in order to minimize such stuff floating around in components.
