I only have a 30Amp plug to charge from for now until I can find an electrician to install my charger. And even after that, I want to know I can reliably charge at places with a variety of available circuits.
So I purchased an AMPROAD adjustable charger off Amazon. This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09NPF2CL8
The charger allows me to set the current to 24 amps, which should be safe on my 30 amp outlet. It worked fine the first few times, but I had not gone below 70% charge.
Today I drove all day and got down below 50%. When I plug in with the charger set to 24 amps, it starts charging for a few seconds, and immediately faults.
If I set the charger to 32 amps it works. But obviously I don't want to draw 32 amps continuously from my 30 amp receptacle. At best it would pop the breaker within a few minutes. At worst it'll burn my garage down. However it demonstrates the charger works, and that the truck is working. Unfortunately it also shows that the current limiting feature does NOT work.
So I'm wondering. Do any of you have this charger? Have you had success charging at reduced current settings? Any recommendations for a better charger than this that will allow me to dial back the current when the only available outlet isn't rated at 50 amps?
