Artist/Song Notifications

I'm having trouble getting this to work on my sync. I have done everything the manual said to do. In park the song/artist presets are in black, the artist notification is in the on position, if you put the truck in gear they gray out. My 14 Lariat would flash on the screen when a prechosen song would be playing, you could ignore it or go to the song.
So what am I doing wrong?
