Hi everyone!

I’m pumped to be a part of this community.

So long story short, I’ve been wanting a Lightning but hadn’t reserved one. I drive around Houston, maybe to Austin every now and again, so I had told myself when the time was right I’d get the standard range.

Well, 3 months ago, my Jeep grand Cherokee crapped out on me with some disturbing warning signs. I had to ditch it and fast. I’ve been looking for Lightnings at MSRP but was resigned to getting another vehicle I didn’t want (like a regular F150 or Tundra) mainly because the 60+ dealerships I reached out to all wanted $10-20k above MSRP.

As luck would have it, one dealership in Houston found they were receiving a 2023 Lightning extended range lariat before the end of the year and selling at MSRP of $88k. It’s out of my price range (hence my nerves) and I don’t even want the extended battery, but felt I had to jump on it.

i Finalized the sale Monday and get it over the next few days as it’s in transit now.

if anyone knows of a good way to get a standard range lariat at MSRP by flipping this one, I’m all ears!!

Congrats on the truck! Just my thoughts on it... It might be tough to come out ahead unless there is a 2022 lower trim and/or standard range that was purchased before the price increases and they got the tax credit, leaving them the ability to profit but with a price that's significantly under your total costs.

My thought is that with taxes and all the dealership costs, your selling price might not make you any money and could be less than you paid. And buying a lower trim 2023 model from someone who paid the higher prices, their taxes and dealership costs might mean there aren't many that are priced very low. As for the tax credit, your timing makes you eligible but the old rules state that you are not intending to sell the car. I don't know what enforcement of that rule might look like but something to be aware of.
