Unfortunately, my last road trip wasn't a fun one. I had to drive back from my father's house, for the last time, after cleaning it out (he passed last December). I drove his 2021 Ford Edge the 1200+ miles home, in basically one shot.

As I left FL two things happened:
1) "Leader of the Band" came on SiriusXM, one of my favorite songs and it kind of reminds me of my father.
2) I passed a flatbed truck carrying 3 PODS (moving/storage units); was sort of funny as I had spent that week loading a POD with stuff from his house to ship home to my sister. For a minute I wondered if one of them was ours (it wouldn't have been, it was too soon for it to be on the road already).

I did stop in Florence, SC to visit my mother-in-law and check to see how see was doing.

After that it was just stops to feed myself and the car (gas guzzler!). I did stop at the first (I think) rest area on the NJ Turnpike to rest my eyes for 10-15 minutes. Ended up waking up about 90 minutes later; totally forgot where I was, and I couldn't remember how to start the car. lol.

After completing the rest of the NJ Turnpike WAZE had me take the lower-level of the George Washington Bridge (oh the horror!) and then sent me through the Bronx up to the Merritt Parkway. I'll have to go back someday when I'm not half-asleep and totally tired of being in a car.

The Merritt Parkway would have been a beautiful ride any other day. Lots of rolling hills, etc. This day though it was just people doing 80-90+ and way too much further to drive to get home. Going through the tunnel was cool though! I made a little video of it.

Other than that, it was just covering more distance, getting through Hartford, CT, and then in MA.

Finally got home, after about 19-20 hours of driving (not counting MIL time). I unloaded the car (mostly), then went to bed and slept for about 8-10 hours.

Would have been nice to have a dashcam for some of the storms I went through, that tunnel in CT, and to record some of the crazy people on the roads. Oh yeah, the accident in Maryland that probably happened minutes before I got there... all kinds of wreckage/stuff strewn across all the lanes of traffic.
