F150 lightning
Hello,
I have bought an F150 lightning from the USA of an auction & shipped it to the Middle East

I am trying to set up fordpass but I am unable to. Every time I try to factory reset the car to clear the previous owner to set up my fordpass, but nothing gets cleared

Ford F-150 Lightning Setting up fordpass previous owner doesn’t clear IMG_3951

I have contacted fordpass customer service and they have told me that the modem is not communicating with the cloud since it is working with the AT&T network of USA & Canada and it is not working in the middle east

I am wondering if I can replace the modem in the car or change the region configuration to get the modem to connect to the cloud and set up my fordpass ?

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/unable-to-activate-vehicle-solved.4832/post-175074

Here’s a similar issue regarding the region configuration and it got fixed by a dealership. Unfortunately there are no dealers willing to take a US imported vehicle here in the ME, so I’m on my own here & have to do it my self

Also I have updated all my car’s modules using FDRS successfully I thought that might help with my issue but it didn’t

Any ideas?

No, you cannot change the modem.

Do a factory reset in the truck.

I did every type of reset but no chance
Modem works its just that it is unable to connect to the cloud since data roaming is not enabled

I have bought a tesla too from the usa & shipped it to the middle east
Using Toolbox ( tesla service software ) theres option to allow data roaming and to enable some of the vehicle’s connectivity related features

I thought there was something like this possible in ford too

Nope. You might TRY connecting it to WiFi, then seeing if the reset works, but I don't think it will. It should have been factory reset in US before shipping.

If you can get to it via WiFi then you should be able to work around the installed modem using existing networking functionality like DDNS, VPN etc

I think the WiFi solution will work. Remember the previous owner has to OK the change.

There is also this workaround, if it works (From Ford's web site info):
-------------------------------------------------------------
Note: If you want to activate a vehicle and remove all existing activated users, you can perform a Master Reset.

https://www.ford.com/support/how-to.../how-do-i-perform-a-sync-masterfactory-reset/
-----
How do I perform a SYNC®* master/factory reset?

Master/factory resets are performed using the SYNC system in your vehicle. To perform a reset, identify your SYNC generation and follow the steps outlined below.

Examples of reasons to perform a master/factory reset may include:

Before selling or transferring ownership.
After purchasing or leasing a pre-owned vehicle.
Before and after renting a vehicle.

Identify Your Vehicle's SYNC Generation

Use these resources to help identify your vehicle's SYNC generation:

The SYNC and Navigation Updates page allows you to enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or log in with your Ford credentials and select Check for update. Your current SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.
The SYNC Visual Reference Guide has example images of each SYNC generation.

SYNC Master/Factory Reset Instructions

Important:
A master/factory reset erases all stored data, such as call history, text messages, previously paired phones, navigation favorites, and modem activation.
A master/factory reset does not return your SYNC system to previous software versions.
Your vehicle must be in Park (P) and running, not in accessory mode.
Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area.
-----
SYNC 4

Before performing a SYNC 4 factory reset, try a system reset to restore functionality. The system reset does not delete any data you have stored.
-----
Performing a System Reset
To reset the system, choose the option below that applies to your vehicle.

Vehicles equipped with a Power button: Press and hold both the Power button (center of the volume knob) and the Seek Right button for 10 seconds.

If the system reset does not resolve the issue, continue with a factory reset.
-----
Performing a Factory Reset
Important:
A factory reset will make all subscriptions (Navigation, Ford BlueCruise, etc.) unavailable for up to ten business days.
After the master/factory reset, you must re-activate your vehicle in the FordPass App for remote features (remote start, lock, unlock, etc.) to be available again.
---
Click here to see how to activate FordPass Connect.
https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...-i-activate-my-vehicles-modem-using-fordpass/
---
On your vehicle's SYNC screen:

Select Settings.
Press Reset.
Select Factory Reset.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the factory reset.

If you need further assistance, contact the Ford Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-392-3673 or choose our Live Chat option.

-------------------------

I looked all this up because I had initially set up Ford Pass with my Smartphone then tried to use a tablet that had a different email address - I had forgotten that and didn't check my phones email for the authorization message until ti dawned on me that was the issue. So I did not resort to the master reset.

That's not correct. Anyone with access to the vehicle can perform a master reset. No approvals necessary.

Your TCU is still provisioned for the US as 5553 is the country code for here.

I am not sure what the country code is for wherever you are, but having helped a few people in the UAE, I can tell you there are many countries where Fordpass does not work. If you are confident that Fordpass works in your country, you would need the VIN of Ford vehicle with working Fordpass and send it to me so I can pull the AB data and see what the country code for you is. You can then go into that line above with FORScan and change it.

If I was able to pull it country code on your modem, it means I have your VIN already.

The other guys in the UAE had similar issues with connectivity. It was not able to be resolved because their country didn't support mobile data. You may be in the same situation.

How is that ?
Basically replace what Ford has using this:

https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-X...p/B0C5RCQ8N5/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=B3WWE2PTF8LN

Then setup the router as a Wireguard VPN server and put a wireguard client on your phone and configure it as a client. When you start the VPN client on the phone and Ford Pass will work. Basically replacing what Ford installed with your own networking.

Of course you would connect the truck to the router via WiFi.

Basically replace what Ford has with your own network setup.

I have removed the fuse from my TCU and haven't bothered to try the above but I may do it with the hardware I have to test it. I'd just use my home WiFi instead of using a Sim card so I could talk to the truck at home only
