  1. Potential to upgrade Lightning to 350kw in future?

CCS2 is EU only. Ours is CCS1 but get what you are saying. Even 3 years ago 800v stuff was basically unavailable. Porsche got away with it because they do everything in-house. I think Ford and everyone will switch. though more likely to 920v than 800v.
  2. Driving into the Kansas charging abyss this weekend

Glad to see your trip went ok. Looks like the weather gods and traffic gods conspired to make everything work. If you pull in a bit short the North slot both cables will reach the port. That's how I use it, but your ahem! rear end will hang out a bit into the drive lane. Because there are so...
  3. Electrical demand with more EVs on the road. Is there enough power supply for future growth?

Ideally the grid folks would not cycle 0-100% nor would they have to. Just doing the math, w/ ~ 100 kwh batteries. Say you take 2 kw per hour to the grid for vehicles above 70% Soc. With ~ 1000,000 such vehicles this would supply ~ 2,000 MW for 4 hours. Your SoC would only drop from say 80%...
  4. Electrical demand with more EVs on the road. Is there enough power supply for future growth?

Actually a lot of blame has to go change in requirements to areas where originally not so much electricity was consumed. A/C is being added to houses, electric ranges, electric dryers, and yes electric cars in areas that did not originally have these. There is plenty of generation but the...
  5. Driving into the Kansas charging abyss this weekend

Hmm. This would be news to me. I drove through there about 2 months ago and not even the grass had been disturbed! That's super quick if they did it in 2 months. Way to go.
  6. Drive in 16 inches of water?

Have a feeling Rivian will discover this was not a good idea or claim. Esp. in moving water or rough waters as folks will try. Some fool is going to get killed trying this in a bad circumstance...
  7. Driving into the Kansas charging abyss this weekend

Sigh! You and me. Many a post has been made about this gap and where a charger should sit for years and years now. There is one coming up about 20 miles south of ottawa on a state sponsored site. That should help when its up.... ...your tax dollars at work.....
  8. Electrical demand with more EVs on the road. Is there enough power supply for future growth?

So as we speak I'm sitting here in the midwest in a voluntary 3 hour Demand response with my A/C thermostat off by utility. And it is 84f outside but apparently some of the thermal/nuke plants are running low on water. Don't fully understand it To be honest I don't mind. Some outage tolerance...
  9. Reddit report of odd range values showing - loose battery cable

This is a known glitch. Everyone should have checked and tightened their LVB terminals by now. Esp. the - ive terminal.
  10. Shifter Mechanics

I detest the dial in the Mach-e. Its almost impossible to shift to N while driving. My dial has already cracked once when something fell on it. It is so small you have to search for the dang thing. The shifter gives me somewhere to park my giant paw on long drives. and its quick easy to shift...
  11. Driving into the Kansas charging abyss this weekend

Yup! It works fine with the Lightning. I think I tested Marianne. I live in KS side as well but tend to take the 49 connection to Tulsa, Austin, etc. There is a large gap on the Wichita side between El Dorado and KC. On 49 to 44 I can consistently drive at 80 mph no concerns... Would...
  12. Best Home Charger that isn't the FCSP

I don't have plug but... ... do not for the of god buy a juice box. Both of my replacements have had hardware and overheating issues in the plug. The software is not any thing to write home either. Every 2 weeks I had to reboot. Threw my third one out with the trash....
  13. Driving into the Kansas charging abyss this weekend

Having done the route from Tulsa, OKC and Austin several times strongly urge that you go thru 44 and 49. ABRP is wrong on this one. The only other alternate is thru Wichita which is too long. That way your biggest DCFC gap is 135 miles between Joplin and the new Harrisonville DCFC. There are...
  14. Jump start ICE vehicle with Lightning ?

I jump started my Volt ICE multiple times with the Lightning 12v LVB. No issues. Started right up. No wait or anything. Kept the Lightning on so it can trickle charge or feed the LVB. At least in an emergency it works just fine.
  15. Does it make sense to charge at home in High Cost States for electricity (such as CT -3rd highest rates)

There are Charge point DCFC's near me that sell power at 8 cents / kwh once you factor in the per minute charge etc. I have to say if its on my way or close, I do stop and take on my cheap electrons. But in summer when my solar panels are pumping out excess electrons, I can do almost free...
  16. Anyone switch from a Tesla and regret it?

Like I said Meh! It is an issue with TSLA. You have to go where the dang thing tells you to go. For most people this is crazy. I find it ridiculous. Most people want to drive and stop when they want to stop and not the other way around. True CCS is not there yet but it is the only one that can...
  17. Anyone switch from a Tesla and regret it?

Meh! Its a truck. I have over 9,000 highway miles on it over 50 DCFC charges and have never needed to know any of this. In the short run this is a meaningless approach to travel. Seriously, no one wants to plan how to get a charger.... Its getting to the point with CCS that you really don't...
  18. Selling used vehicle advice. What company or Ap did you use. Tips. Who to avoid and why.

I recommend carmax. You won't get 100% of value. They offered me 98% of what I thought it was worth. But the paperwork is quick and easy. They give you a free offer in less than an hour that is good for a week. I have also sold to Vroom recently and also Craigslist. You do get a bunch of...
  19. Cabin noise at high speed...where is it?

Along with what others said... There is 5000+ lbs of dense battery between the bottom of your cab and the wheels and road. Ford has definitely take advantage of this but all EV's come with this benefit. You wants quiet, try the Audi Etron. Which is down in 60 dB range at 70 mph. Something like...
  20. Charging to 90% as mentioned in Manual or 80% like others?

Aha! The eternal dilemma of all EV types. The #1 source of premature degradation for EV batteries is not having a good liquid cooling system. The Leaf folks took one for the team and proved that his was a key no no. The #2 problem we have seen is actual charging esp. DCFC at high...
