Ya, that's exactly how the bed mats are made. It's rubber with a filler string. My old gm one was the same and it works great but it shouldn't be showing through the top on a brand new liner. Solid rubber is much heavier.

The motors and everything else share a coolant system but the oil is contained to just the individual motor.
