Up-date - Petro Canada now use a RIFD chip from a Credit Card to activate the charger - worked perfectly first try. I see they just have a touch screen and menu - choose CC or Applepay etc. a few options, and you don't need a dedicated App or a PetroCanada Petro-pass either - just the CC is all...
I have a complete solarPV-battery-inverter system, and average 37kWh per day to run the buildings, plus another 20-25kWh per day to top up the Lightning to 80% SOC. During Winter there is no way my system can collect 60kWh per day, and I use overnight ToU utilty (low overnight rates) to charge...
Thanks for sharing your experiences, I see that leaving an known area for another unknown one will mean doing some research on the avaiable charging network, and what apps are needed to activate them.
I did some online checking, looking like Petro-Canada has gone to CC DC RFID activation for...
I see they had a separate PetroPass EV but the website shows this was 'retired' in Dec 2024...with what to replace it?
I will check it out tomorrow, there is a PetroCanada station near-by I can test with.
I signed up for Electrify Canada - and then saw their map ! Well now I know why I have...
Yeah, I see that, we still have three different plugs for EV's, and it seems, even with the attempts to "put all the apps into one" we have room for improvement !
I am sure it will come, in time. For now whenever I see a new type of charger and I can spare a few minutes, I try it out. See if I...
I checked it out again today - and you guys are right, - I got the name wrong too, the charging network this pair of chargers is part of is call Flo
and yes they issue their own cards OR you can set up an account and then activate the charger with the app, no RFID needed at all. I didn't think...
Did my very first Fast Charge today from a Tesla charge station near-by. Ran the charger just 20 minutes to make sure it all worked properly and charged up from 60-something to 80-something percent. Okay that was pretty easy, I think I will do this again next week to be sure it wasn't at first...
In my third week of the new Lightning - I am still giddy over this truck.
I look for any excuse to run out and get something, just to ride around in it.
I got my new Typhoon Pro adapter from A2Z EVshop online - ordered last weekend, and it came in today, so about a week.
{edit paid $219.99 CDN$...
But the issue - the truck will not allow charging while moving. A safety measure I am sure, so you don't move the truck while the cord is plugged in.
If crusing down the hwy is using 20kWh per hour (say) then you need at least a 20kW genertor to keep up, or you go smaller and it extends range...
It may be good for us (the ones with a Lightning already) to show the truck and what it does do well to other interested potential buyers - after all if the trucks don't sell well enough, then Ford will not keep making them...would be bad for us in the long run.
I can't tell you how many people...
This is a great posting - showing the real world experience you had with the truck and service centre. Glad it worked out, and you got the truck back for the ride home!
I may be slow to pick up on the new tech, or I just enjoyed sitting in the truck too much - must have spent hours playing with all the features and settting up FordPass, going over all the options and menus - loved every minute of it. Enjoy the new truck !
I just did a serach - looks like the cut off was originally July, then changed to October. 2024.
I ordered one, was in stock so will have it in a few days or so. The joys of living out in the sticks.
