When I got the truck a year ago, the Service Ontario agent informed me I could get the GV plates and they cost the same as regular truck plates, with free annual renewal and you can use HOV lanes even if alone in the truck - assuming your in the south where they have HOV lanes...
If ya can't take the weather, better get out of NW Ontario lol.
The car port had only one place that fit with the lay of the property, so it ended up where it is. I wanted to build a smaller car port right on one end of the house, for my wife, but she didn't approve of the way this would make...
The Stats, as best I can tell, so far, and these will change over time, but seems the best information we know currently:
In general
EV fires are reported as 25/100,00 {ICE 1530, Hybrids 3475} by the US NTSB.
OF EV fires, 20-30% are reported as during charging or immediately after charging...
I've been integrating my solar assistant into Home Assistant last few weeks, and building out automations for the property. I hear that HA can grab data from our Ford App - I hope to integrate the charging required into my overall energy management system.
Like the OP, I was able to harness AI...
as a kid my first "job" was pushing a lawn mower down the street Saturday mornings to the gas station and filling up a gallon can (Imperial gallon, 4.55L) got change from a quarter. Then walked house to house to see who wanted me to cut their lawn.
The hotter it was, the more takers I got...
I can see the SOC doesn't move during those cycles, it follows the same pattern as a cycling hot-water-tank maintaining a set temperature. It uses the full 24A power available but it doesn't change the SOC.
The reason I wanted to point this out: the short 15-20 minute power cycles, every 4-5...
This ^^^^
This is how my property is set up, so the truck just supplies AC power to a dedicated DC charger connected to the main battery bank (48v LFP) and as you say, this is very simple and safe, since there are no N-G loops created.
Feeding a battery bank has another advantage to me, the...
I suspect it would, if needed, my typical daily charge is about 20-30 kWh. I noticed it will cycle drawing power for 15-20 minutes at a time, about every 4 hours. Then the full charging takes place 11-7. Typically it's finished charging about 4am or so, the truck is set to precondition for...
It was -35C here, (-31F) and my truck charged overnight on a 24A L2 charger in my carport outside. My perferred charging time is 11pm to 7am (to match ToU low overnight rate) but I put the truck on plug as soon as I get in about 5:30pm and I notice it does pull some power from 5:30 to 11pm - I...
I use a Grizzl-E mini 40 and in the app I can set the charging current in integer amps - any number from 7 to 40 amp at any time. They do make a 'dual' for two EV's in one charger as well. I find the app very nice to use on my phone.
you can find by searching Grizzl-e.com
I chat with a battery researcher online concerning batteries in general (my home and business run on LFP packs) and their comment to me on this topic is "SSB have been successful in the lab for some time now, but bringing them to commercial production, QC/QA, repeatable consistant low cost...
If Donut has unlocked a new secret to SSB design, where are the patents?
would this be compelling evidence they have actually done something new, that is not super-capacitor based, ie real SSB design?
We have a patent att on the forum somewhere - @chl ? IIRC
1. Canada, Winter, Cold, sitting on plug? not on plug?
2. Three year old LA battery, and we already know the Lightning doesn't keep these sitting at high SOC, so they take a beating.
3. As others pointed out - that 'battery test' was after you just drove to their shop, so not going to tell you...
Follow-up: nearly a year later, the Blizzak V2's are amazing tires in snow and on ICE covered hwy, I am super happy with them, since they don't appear to cut the range terribly, at least not noticeably more than the cold weather did on it's own before putting the winter tires on the truck. Love...
Part of the reason for buying my Lightning was to have a back up - to the back up,-for the solar-ESS system. I spent quite a bit of time on the topic, both for safety, compliance and convenience. There are well known issues of connecting a bonded "generator" into a grounded home electrical...
it is amazing the difference the Gulf-Stream (AMOC) makes to Northern Europe compared with similar latitudes of central North America. People are supprised to hear that London England (which rarely sees snow) is about the same latitude as Winnipeg Manitoba in Canada where -40C/F is pretty...
