Update:
It’s now 10:00am 1/26/2026 cst and we are approaching 24hrs without power. It’s 10 degrees outside and 70 degrees in the house thanks to my Lightning ER w/pro power.

With the current load we are pulling it looks like we will use about 15% every 24hrs. So we should be good for 5-51/2 days with enough left to go recharge and return if necessary.

Update:
Power dropped at 12:45pm cst 1/25/2026 today and has been out since.

Looking at the providers outage map it may be a while before we see it restored. 1-3 days would be my guess.

The truck is running everything we need and only drawing between 450-900w. Thank GOD we just replaced our aging package heating system with a new more modern and efficient unit last month.

Well here we go. The snow came and went and the sleet and freezing rain has moved in.

power has fluctuated a few times this morning and my go at any time now.

Not to worry the Lightning is wired and ready to stand in.

I think we have about 8" so far, but it's still coming down pretty steady.

We're up to 17" now, and they're still calling for three more inches this evening.
I've been going outside to shovel the driveway every hour or two, trying to keep up with it.

Reminds me of the old and "deceptive" Diehard battery commercials where they show a car covered with snow that has been sitting up at Frostbite Falls, MN all winter at below zero temperatures. The car starts right up and the wipers knock the snow off the windshield and not iced up on the glass. What they didn't tell anyone is that the snow is like an insulator. Inside of snow it is approximately 32 degrees and the same for inside an ice cube.

Learned that during Army winter survival training where we dug snow caves and slept in them with heat and light provided by a candle. Had to keep an open tunnel and airway just big enough to crawl out of and still maintain plenty of oxygen. Slept on a 1" thick rubber pad rolled out and in the old mummy shaped Army sleeping bags. And those sleeping bags reminds me of going to the beach for a weekend at Myrtle Beach, SC. Us GI's would take those sleeping bags and sleep out on the beach at night. Wake up in the morning and there would be a hundred Army sleeping bags up and down the beach as far as I could see.

I have their floor mats in and like them. Also have the bed mat in and it works great as nothing slides around on them. As soon as the weather gets better, I can get the Phoenix coating bed lining sprayed and install the tail gate mat. Then buy a tonneau cover.
