Summary

The manual is wrong, Go to Vehicle>Easy Entry/Exit

The Full Story

I’ve had a 2023 Lightning Lariat for a few weeks now. I went to the manual to see how keep the Power Deployable Running Boards out during the car wash.

The manual says to go to the features menu and select Running Board Modes.

This menu does not exist. I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Ford talking to Ford Pass, Customer Service and the BEV department. While on hold with the latter, I found where it’s located.

Hope this saves someone else some time wasted on the phone.

Side Note: the factory installed Power Running Boards are great. Definitely worth the $225.

I’ve only had my truck a few days and I’ve noticed a lot of things in the manual that seem wrong like that. I’m guessing the truck got a pretty major UI change recently?

I agree 225. Seems like a steel for that feature and it was hard for me to find a truck with that option but I specifically sought one out. But I have been pretty annoyed with the automatic deploy feature. I hate to turn features that we pay for off, but there’s just too many times walking around my house that I can hear that the truck is deploying the runningboards throughout the day.

Or if I go to the garage to get some food out of the freezer or anything.

I know we like everything to be seamless in life nowadays, but I have no problem walking up to my truck and pressing the unlock button on the key fob in my pocket and seeing the lights turn on and the runningboards pop out.

The approach lighting is cool and I kind of regret that gets turned off… But I also think that can be why a lot of people have issues with their 12 V battery. I had a 2021 F150 and same issue anytime I would walk near the truck just to do regular household things the lights were always kicking on.

???I do that to my Lincoln all the time, forgetting about the proximity lighting and then it's like the sun's coming up on my street and I'm looking out the window with my coffee like some sort of villain.

That would be annoying. Perhaps @Ford Motor Company could add an option in settings to set deployment to trigger with the door handle. That would solve the issue of the truck picking up your phone's Bluetooth.
