One day solar / powerwall /EV charging / home backup / grid support will be simple, easy and common.
It’s a fascinating concept and I like these imaginative Implementations

I can't say it was simple or easy, and sure isn't common, but going solar with battery backup has been a great experience - the lightning is just part of our conversion to 'on site power generation, storage and utilization'.
For our set up, we use solar-battery-utility-Lightning-dual fuel generator, as the order of power sources. So far the Lighning has only been used in testing, but one day... we live rural so being independent kinda comes with the scenery.

Years ago I though I was a genius when I hooked up an inverter to the battery on my ATV to power Halloween lights on a hayride trailer …
Gas engine powers AC alternator that powers DC battery that powers AC inverter that powers lights.

Lol that's awesome. Your story actually caused me to look up more details on how that all works internally, and now I'm wondering if I can just get a rectifier and plug it in to the MPPT ports of the Powerwall. I would need to find a way to current limit it though, and I'm still not sure if it would work.
