Good article on the US again being late to big changes coming up in transportation evolution and EV adoption. History repeating.

Out Lightning has had few minor issues but nothing surprising with new tech. Battery BMS messed with downloads, a finicky frunk switch.

25+ years ago my new F250 SD 7.3 was delivered with a starter cable wrapped around the clutch linkage. After a few months, turning the key on and pressing the clutch pedal would start the engine… shifting would engage the starter.

The service manager just about jumped out of the cab when I had him “start” the truck. Grounded through transmission-engine. A rebuild.

Excuse me if I don't shed a tear for the auto industry that has fought and delayed almost every improvement, from seat belts to emissions limits to...you name it, all because profit margins are more important than things like safety, convenience and extinction threatening climate change...

They are "struggling" to keep up with change now, by struggling I mean b-ing and moaning about it with lobbyists buying delays on Capitol Hill, so...what's new about that?

If it weren't for California, we'd have a lot more pollution, and fewer EVs choices. Thank you sunshine state!

If American auto makers continue to cry in their beer about all the improvements they have to make to save the planet, China is going to win the EV market war...they are already winning everywhere except the US because of shortsightedness here...alas.

The Malaise era represented a colossal mistake by the US auto industry. And it wasn’t just fuel economy. 60’s tech meant a car was really worn out at 100K miles.

Read up on the auto engineer Edward
Deming. A brilliant statistical analyst of technology who was asked to solve some basic problems in Japan post ww2. He taught them a new modern approach to manufacturing QA/QC and they believed him.

The US finally picked up on this by 1980 when major automakers figured out that Japanese quality had left them in the dust.
