We picked up my wife’s @TexasGardeningGirl new Atlas Blue XLT SR on Friday and drove it back 828.8 miles to Texas.
We purchased the Mannequin at an unnamed dealer in Alabama.(MSRP).
We’ve been sitting on this truck for six months.
Finally picked it up on Friday and started our journey just before 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
Due to the lack of chargers along I-20, we had to take a northern route.
Two legs to Jackson, Tennessee the first day with one charging stop in Athens Alabama.
We charged at the hotel and were able to get to 90% overnight. The next day we drove the rest of the way back to Dallas.
We stopped to charge in Forrest city, Little Rock, and Hope Arkansas as well as Mount Pleasant, Texas.
It was a total of 828.8 miles (only 1.8 more than ABRR).
Going through the trip logs on the app, we burned 402.3 kW. Making our total journey at 2.06 mi./kW.
Just what I expected from watching all the YouTube videos and seeing the posts here. This is not a road trip vehicle for us since we don't do that anymore, but it wasn’t that bad of a deal.
Our legs were 115, 153, 129, 101, 102, 94 and 134 miles.
The charging experience left something to do be desired at Electrify America.
Of the five times we charged at EA, I think only once did it work the first time. At most stops, we had to switch charge unit.
At one charger we just had to re-initiate to make it work.
What we found was even though it’s a short range truck even still at 30% she would pull 155 to 160 kW to start with. And later hold 95 to 100 kW up to 80%.
At one charger a Bubba and his lifted Silverado we’re parked in the spot for the 350 kW charger. I tried charging on the 150 kW charger and like a lot of them, I could not get max charge rate. Usually on the 150 chargers I would only get 95 kW.
On this one in Hope, Arkansas, all I could get was 47 kW.
Bubba actually moved his truck pretty quickly after we got there, so I moved over to that unit And the charge rate jumped to 160 kW.
The short range trucks are only advertised to charge at 120kw, but every time it was 155 to 160 kW to start. It held that into the 60% range.
Very impressed with the charge rate up to 80% at which time it would drop to about 45 kW and hold that till 90%.
So I find that EA needs some work. It should work every single time you plug-in. Instead of dancing around chargers.
Luckily for us we didnt have to wait at any stop and were able to get a good rate.
I found chargers by the highway easier to access with less people there. But one charger we had to drive through town in Athens, Alabama, and it was a waiting line for the charger. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait, but others came up and of course, one of the four units was down. Plus it was in a busy area of the parking lot at WalMart and most of their spaces were not made for an F150.
The FordPass app populated with our miles. We were not charged for any kilowatts from our 250kw bank until I got to Arkansas. The Chargers in Alabama, Texas and Tennessee were free. I did have to activate the chargers with the FordPass app in Arkansas. So for this entire trip even though we use 402.3 kW, I only used 107 out of our bank and we still have 143 kW and the hotel charging was free.

Congrats on the truck @TexasGardeningGirl and @LUXMAN. Sounds like the trip back was successful, although always a little worrisome when you have to try multiple chargers and encounter Bubba along the way. Looks nice and clean after 800 miles.
