My tailgate on my 2025 Lariat will open automatically with my key fob, phone, or button on the tailgate itself. However, if left open for several minutes, it won’t close by any of these methods. All I get is a “beep”. Then I have to wait a while before I can just manually close it, given the mechanisms prevent me from lifting the tailgate until they “release“ at some point.

The tailgate has a mind of its own. The truck is probably locking in that extra time and the truck will not let you close the tailgate when the truck is locked. Its a pain...
I will be at the fields, my son will be on he tailgate getting his cleats on as I have already started walking. The truck will lock under the walk away lock only to prevent my son from closing the tailgate. Stupid design.
This is my 4th F-150 and they seem to become less useful in daily situations with every iteration. hell, I can no longer open the tailgate from the keypad. I can open the frunk, but not the tailgate. Just plain silly.
Im not poo pooing the truck, just the engineering mindset at ford. This will probably be my last.

I set my tailgate to "Manual," it's easier for me to open and close it manually than use the power setting.

My '24 Lightning Flash does the same thing--some of the time. Except that when i take it to the dealer to fix it, it performs perfectly. At this point it I'd say it closes automatically 1/6 of the time, opens 100% of the time, and I am perplexed.
