Tailgate opening and closing on its own

Last week my tailgate started opening and closing by itself. This would happen every 5-10 minutes. This has never happened before.

I brought it to my dealer and they just told me that this was only happening when my tonneau cover was closed. It's a 3 piece folding metal cover. They claim that if the cover isn't fully closed, the tailgate did not open or close for them. This makes no sense to me but has anyone had a similar issue? I've had this cover since I got the truck over 3 years ago.

I'll probably just keep it in manual mode if it keeps happening.

Make sure your fob isn't having inadvertent button pushes.

With tailgate closed, lock the truck, that should keep it from opening if it's an internal failure.

I've seen before where the tailgate doesn't fully latch and it will reopen.
