Good side...
8 years old and I got my first pocket knife from my now deceased parents. It was in the very bottom (toe) of my Christmas stocking and when I turned the sock over and it fell out on the floor I can still remember the pure excitement that I had... "my own pocket knife" just like my dad. Still have it to this day almost 50 years later.

Bad side...
I got a remote controlled car one year for Christmas and my parents forgot to buy batteries with it. Back in those days NOTHING was open on Christmas day so I had to wait till the next day to play with my new RC car :)

Reminds me of something my Dad, who grew up on a subsistence farm with no electricity, said ... "Every boy needs a pocket knife, pencil, piece of paper, and piece of string in his pocket."

Thank you for sharing your lovely memory.
I also got a remote controlled car once, but it got wrecked by my "violent" driving within just a few days LOL.
Merry Christmas!
