They must have gotten the dampening right on the rear axle because I don’t see anyone mentioning anything similar to “Ranger Bounce.”

I took a spin in the Ford Ranger when they started showing up and was immediately struck by the discomfort on the highway. A pitch polling front to back motion that almost made me seasick.

Some blame the Ranger’s single leaf spring but really a single leaf spring and a stack of them won’t be too different. If anything the single leaf should have more compliance. A coil will have the disadvantage of also needing additional suspension links to keep the axle located in its place, adding more weight and taking up more space, which is why solid axles with buggy springs still endure.

Still, for the price; there’s really nothing new other than some minor refinements on what’s effectively a decades old suspension.

At least they ditched the twin I beam setup a long time ago.
