Disconnecting a charge

If you hit the button on the adapter it stops the charging, that is hardly hidden (its exactly what OP did). That is a physical emergency disconnect similar to flicking the power switch.

Disconnecting the adapter or ccs charger is entirely possible and constitutes the same thing as "pulling the cable out".

Pushing the charge button or hitting stop on the charger sends a command for all components to end the charging session.

That’s just a long way of saying the same thing I did - you can’t just pull the cable out without doing something else first.
