Get a second-opinion?

TLDR: We got rear-ended by an uninsured driver in California back in February. She hit the rear of my truck square on its hitch-cover, and the cop who attended said there may be some hairline fractures on the bumper mount.

We got back to Oregon, went to a local Ford dealership's body shop, to be told there that there was no damage, and we were good to go.

Fast forward to this week, and we noticed this crack underneath - looking back at the images post crash, there's a small line that didn't look like a full-blown crack but clearly was.

While it's good to know the mount did its job, here's hoping it'll be a simple repair. Grr.

*edit* looking at parts, it seems like a reasonably easy part to get welded on, assuming the chassis rails are all in good alignment.

A competent welder should be able to fix that easily.
Agreed, although if my insurance asks for it to be fixed a particular way I’ll likely go with that :)

If it were my truck, I would definitely take it back to the Ford body shop. Since it is a structural frame component with safety implications, I would expect Ford to require replacement with an OEM part.

Well, the repair is under way.

$2,300 maybe a little more. They found some damage to the bumper too, so it’s getting repainted, and they have to remove the entire bed to replace the Mount.

I just hope they treat the custom bits I’ve done properly!!!
