Found a great replacement tire … Kumho Road Venture HT’s

Living in SW Florida heat… shell roads… and spirited driving have quickly taken a toll on the Michelin Primacy XC tires that my 25’ XLT left the factory with. 15k miles and closer to the wear indicators than I cared for to be driving in Floridas rainy season.
Last month I installed a 2 inch leveling kit so I was already in the market for tires. I love Coopers and Toyos but didn’t want the hear the All Terrain drone in what should be a quiet and comfortable truck. So after lots of research I found what I think was a nice EV RATED upgrade. I ordered at set of Kumho Road Venture HT’s. They are an LT, EV Rated highway tire that also meets the qualifications for a 3 Peak snow/ice rating. They look and ride very similar to a Michelin LTX MS.

I bumped up my sidewall height and load rating and went to an LT275/70/18 just to get a little more height without affecting range or ride quality. They have only been on a day so far but fit great, ride great, steering responsiveness is improved over the mushy Michelins and as far as I can tell… zero changes in my range but time will tell as I build a new average after resetting everything.

Just figured I’d share some feedback… I’ll comment more over time.

I like those tires. I’m actually thinking of going with an LT if I keep this truck. The ride is so soft on the stock tires I’m thinking an LT might be perfect? Does that thought process make sense to anyone?

Yet, lol. I put LT tires on my other truck and thought the same thing. After driving my new truck, the last thing I want to do is have to drive the old one. Looks great and I'm sure the beefier sidewalls have saved themselves over the years of skinny drive thru scrapes and the like.

The harsher ride alone is a non starter for my old worn out back.

It was my thought process and I’m enjoying it. The overall ride is ever so slightly stiffer but in my opinion it’s not noticeable enough. The LT’s do shine when it comes to lateral stability. My steering feels smoother and more responsive. Range so far… I was averaging 2.3 mi/kwh. I’m seeing 2.1mi/kwh now. But I also went from a 275/65 to a 275/70 for a jump in height to match my leveling kit. In my opinion the slight loss isn’t a concern of mine. I was averaging out 260 miles on a charge when charging to 100% which we all know our dashes are guess o meters but now I’m reading dead on at 240 since I decided to charge to 100% last night to see. Personally, I think these trucks should have been equipped with an LT tire from the start. Mine ate my soft Michelins alive. Too much power and weight for a standard tire. The Kumho’s track very straight and feel solid especially on a WOT pull.

Makes sense to me! I got some Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT tires for winter use and loved them. Yes, sidewall is stiffer, which makes handling feel much better. There was a ~5% efficiency drop but probably mostly due to a more aggressive and deeper tread pattern. I love the idea of an EV-tuned LT tire to (hopefully) offset the range hit.
