thanks. good thoughts. It's unlikely I'll ever use them so I'll unscrew one and see. If it's as I hope, I'll post my solution.Whatever receives the bolts that hold the tiedown on are between the stampings, so presumably captive nuts welded or held in place by some other method, plastic clips etc; on the back that the bolts go into, put there before the bedside is tacked on and the bed completed. That said, I'm not gonna be the one to unscrew 'em, lest the not-actually-captive nut be lost to the abyss...
